First time in the semi's in the 1/8 mile

Final took the old gal out on a Sat nite at the track. Made it to the semi's when I missed shift and let the other guy take the win. So close but so far.
Took home 50 bucks for my trouble so I can't complain to much. I did put a high 5's Kaw on the trailer with a 7.53 run. He was the fastest bike in the field until he met me and I sent him home early

I need to back cut the gears so it does'nt happen again, does anybody have any ideals of who and where.

I going to buy a air shifter and see if that helps the 3rd gear from slipping out. That should make it a more positive shift.

i'd avoid the air shifter, as it might cause you to add a bit of weight with an air tank and compressor...you're just slowing the bike down with weight.

we tried an electromagnetic powered shifter once...it was kinda heavy, but it was a stand alone unit. if you wired that into the bike it might work. i would consider using a capacitor with it, to make sure it has enough power each shift.

if you want more info, i can try to dig up the link for that shifter.

Kudos on your successes!!! I'm not thinking an air shifter is going to help coming out of gear though, you most likely need to get the dogs cleaned up, undercut or replaced

Yeah I hear you loud and clear, I just wish the 1100 had a trap door.

Thanks for the link on Race Cut gears. I'll be doing that this winter.

AOD, you don't put a compressor on the bike, just a small air tank. Air it up and it will easily do a set of shifts.

Just buy one that has the cylinder, valve and CO2 cartridge all in one part. Nice and small.

Another thing you may be able to get away with at that small track is use the frame as the tank.

For sure, the gains from a modern air shift out weight any loss.

Have fun and congrats on your near win.

I've never heard of that type. Where can you find one??

Jake

Try Orient Express. 1-800-645-6521.

Yea, that E/T bracket racing is tough. Doesn't really matter how fast you run.
We need to get you into a full auto transmission and a Deadenbear command module. It takes most of the fun out of driving, but you will be kicking everyones ass at your track. They wouldn't know what to think. I bet you could almost find one used on eBay. You don't really need the new ones, even an old thumb wheel type with cross over would do you very nice.

Post a picture of how you mounted that MSD box on your bike. Have you had any trouble with it other than the loose wire?

I like the sound of that !! Where going to try and gang up on the high $ bikes and see if we can put them on the trailer early.

On the MC2 all I did was to use 3/8 fuel hose. Punch holes in it to mount the box upside down and ran the ends to the frame tubes under the seat. Works great and the box does'nt move. To remove the battery I'll have to undo the fuel line screws.

I just rewired my bike got rid of the ignition switch and about 20 feet of wiring. The old wiring had power run from the battery to the fuse box back to the ignition switch back to the fuse box back to the kill switch on the handle bar and then to the ignition system. Got rid of all that crap and solved my problem. I even cut the top of the starter solinoid and mounted upside down making it a push type and got rid of that power wire too.

Can you say RAT Bike

Interesting idea. It may even save the ignition box. Those things seemed to fail with the vibration. The rubber may really help dampen it. You kept the points from what it sounds like. You may be able to find an old Dyna S. It will work fine with the MSD box, and it works with those old stock advancers. I had this setup on an old bike, along with everyone else.

I am a bit surprised that you are seeing a lot of high end bikes without a computer and auto shift on them. Oh well, some people never learn. Better for you!! How many bikes do you see on an average night? How many are stock bikes versus something setup for the track? I guess when I say stock, I mean they were able to drive it to the track.

I would like to build a new bike from the ground up but it's more time than I have right now. If I do am thinking something slow and reliable, just to have fun with.

Last week we had about 12 bikes show up and half of those were trailers.
I've seen about 6 Pro-Stock bikes running around here from time to time. They seem to be in the 5.3 to 5.5 range in the 1/8 mile. They have more money tied-up in body work than my truck and bike combined.

I want to race there. I used to race in conn. and we always had 40 to 60 bikes between the two classes, trophy and points. When they closed conn. dragway and i went on to race at lebbanon valley in new york there were always at least 40 bikes and all competed in the same class. i made it to the finals twice there and won once . At conn. dragway I won the finals five times.at both tracks at least half the bikes were big tired, delay boxed, airshifted wheelie bar, dragbikes. I always ran the stock wheelbase and chassie at new york and cherish that win the most.

I know how you feel Skip. I love when the poor boys show up on their old machines and gives them dudes a run for their money. From what I've seen is when a high $ bike has a problem going down the strip it's always a big one and they give you alot of tenth's. When I make a mistake it's not as bad and I give away 1-2 tenths.

This makes me want to go out and buy another a 71 Pinto with 1600cc motor. Back in the old days in AZ that same Pinto always ran 1/4 mile ET of 21 seconds at 60 MPH. I was winning alot of races with that car against 10-12 second cars. I got the finger more times than trophy's. Those guys could'nt handle me getting a 11 second jump and if I sand bag just alittle oh well. Just hitting the brakes in the traps drop me down to 30 mph. Now those were the days.

Jake

I always prefered to be the guy with the jump. I foud that the pressure on the guy with the faster bike watching you drive away at the tree would force them to push the tree and redlight, or break out of their bracket and get disqualified. A friend of mine runs a 8 second kawasaki and I faced him twice he spoted me two seconds and I was 100ft out before he left I used the spray and ran similar mph down the far end and both times he broke out and lost. on the other hand my friend with the stock gs 850 beat me twice he ran right on his dial once and only off 1 tenth and I broke out chasing him both times. sure can be fun huh

Sounds like a nice place to run. I used to run at a real small track in northern Michigan that was like this. I never took my drag bike there as most of the people were just running street bikes. A lot of them did not even have a pipe.

Funny that there are actually Pro-Stock bikes there. I wondered where all of them went to.

Were you able to find the air shifter I was telling you about?

Like a lot of companies they don't put a lot of their race stuff out there.
I put a picture from their catalog on the web for you to look at:

http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/intellasys@ameritech.net

It's in the "my photo" section. Just blow it up a few times by clicking on it.

Not sure about the cost. The kit your looking at should be fine. Would be interested in seeing how you get it mounted in. Seems like I always have to fab. custom parts.

Did check out your local track. Very nice from the pictures. A lot of good looking bikes. Could not find any of your bike in there. You need to get them to work on that. I like the one HD with all the body work. Looks like you have a local guy to beat. We have a few of those around here.
