    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok guys, so here's my problem. I have an 83 550 L. I have been working on it over the winter. I set the valves, double checked them again last night and they are all good. did a compression test and all cylinders are between 120-140 PSI. I took apart both carbs, removed slides, which looked fine so I didn't touch them otherwise, and measure the float to make sure it was set properly everything else looked clean so I didn't touch it. So I don't see how the carbs can be my problem. I changed the plugs, checked them last night and they are all firing. Rebuilt the petcock, checked that last night and it's working properly. The bike starts but it has a really bad hesitation. even once I warm it up if I crack the throttle sometimes it shuts off or other times it just hesitates before it revs up. Even when reving it to around 4k it's not running clean. It smells like it flooding itself but it's not smoking.
 
You may know this already: Hesitation can be due to air leaks and/or exhaust leaks - very common problem. If the leaks are severe it can cause the bike to stall. Tons of posts on this topic.
Also, you didn't mention if you cleaned the jets themselves. They may "look" OK when in fact, they're partially clogged - results in hesitation and/or stalling. Tons of posts about this as well. Do a search.
 
Does the battery have a good charge in it? The generator will not produce enough current to fire the coils properly until 3K rpm. If the battery is low then the spark can be weak enough to cause hesitation and missing. If it can build enough RPM's the generator will kick in and she'll jump out from under ya'. LOL
 
yup battery is fully charged, Thansk for your advice but I think I'll take it and have it checked out by someone who knows Carbs. Definatley not my forte.
