Fork seal confusion

Ok so I'm a bit stumped. I bought some leak proof pro moly fork seals to rebuild my forks. Simple enough. I'm using the forks off of a 1979 750L by the way. Now I just went to put the seals in but they are too big. I took a look at the packaging and it says it is supposed to fit my forks but the dimensions it lists are ID: 37mm; OD: 50mm. Now the problem is the OD. I measured the opening of the lower fork tubes and they are 48mm, not 50mm! Is it a simple matter of leak proof having incorrect measurements. All I can say is this is very frustrating. I keep hitting snags left and right. Uggh. I'm gonna call leak proof tomorrow and ask for a refund or something. Or am I missing something?

750 forks are 35mm. You have the wrong fork seals.

Yes but I'm using 79 forks which are 37mm. And I got the fork seals that are supposed to fit said forks, it even says so on the packaging, but they don't.

This may sound like a silly question but did you try to take your measurement with the forks still assembled? Its possible the area that the seal fits into is 50mm.

Did you measure the old seal to see what size it is?

No the forks are not assembled. I used calipers to take my measurements. I measured the ID of the lower tube and it was 48mm. I took out one of the stock spacers and it's OD measures 48mm. I took the spacer that came with the fork seal kit, which has an OD of 50mm, and it would not go in unless I ground done the edges. Then I took a spacer from my other set of forks, which has an OD of 48mm and it fit perfectly. I'm thinking Leak Proof might have bad measurements.

Case in point why Suzuki parts are usually best...:)

True, unless Suzuki decides to supersede the part with an ill fitting one. Now I have carb boots that are of no use to me. I just ordered the correct OEM seals and should have them in about two weeks; just in time for my birthday. That's also why I didn't order OEM. I hate waiting.

Did you try allballsracing.com, they sell fork seals.

Well I already ordered the OEM seals but out of curiosity I checked their site and I don't know if I would feel confident ordering from them. They just list the 750 as a general bike, not the different model types and say that the seals will fit all gs750 bikes from '77-'79. But if you do a cross reference on babbitts, you would see that the fork seal for the '79 750L is specific to only that bike. No other bike uses that part number. So I guess aftermarket parts suppliers have bad info. Or maybe they know something I don't.
