As the title say's, I found a skunk on the side of the road this morning on my way to go grocery shopping with the other half. [ We do this together every Sunday] So I am heading out of town and I see this skunk on the side of the road. I tell the wife I have to go look at it a little closer, so I turn around and go back. I look it all over and tell the gut I'd be back in a couple hours that I was on my way to Keene and would take the bike. So he pulled the for sale sign and when I got back I went and bought it. I got it for little bit of cash $100.00 and clean another set of carbs for the guy[ carbs are for a Honda CB350 twin] and he has already bought the new floats and carb kits. SCORE:D Now for some pics;

Nah, it wasn't shaft-driven. :p

That is what greeted me as I got home from one of my trips. I had actually taken my Wing on that trip, you can see the trailer up beside the white car. I had not even made it into the house yet, just got off the bike, took off my helmet, grabbed my camera out of the trunk and took the pictures.

I thought it was a wonderful "welcome home", though, as we have a family story going because of a skunk that I had hit a few years earlier.
I was even given a Beanie Baby skunk because of that. :D

believe it or not Dana, not 2 miles from the house, right across from Ed's tire down on Canal Street.I've been looking for one for a while which you knew. Well we have another winter project if you are interested.;) Got a golf cart coming to, may be a candidate for that 600 bandit motor

That's great Jim !
Talk about the right place at the right time.
Sounds like a good project, but it's got to have red in it :)
Hmmm, 600 engine in a golf cart, quite a trike !

Very nice, almost complete

That will keep you busy

I wonder if all those missing side covers are with all my missing socks?

Only missing 1 and the guy said he thought he had it, along with the cover that goes over the air filter.:)

It does can't you see the red stripes? :D The golf cart is actually a 4 wheeled one , it is a older Club Car. I did one about 7-8 years ago , I put a Honda CX 650 v twin in one. It went good, fast as hell and would burn the tires right off of it. The gearing was a little low, you could take off in third gear spinning the tires. and if I had locked the rearend I am sure you would have no problem drifting it. Problem was I didn't lift it so it didn't have much ground clearance. Asphalt use only pretty much. Oil pan would hit on rough terrain pretty easily. Before I had a chance to correct it a guy came along and offered me stupid money so it went bye bye.:D

Well I haven't had alot of time to do much with this skunk but I did pull the carbs and go through them, strip, dip and good cleaning with new o-rings and gaskets. They have been sitting in the shop for a couple weeks. Well I found some time today and figured I'd change the oil , and throw the carbs on and fire it up as I hadn't really heard it run anymore than a jump box and a squirt of fuel in the intake tube's. Well got oil changed carbs on [ no air box just some rags wire tied over the throats] hooked up the I-V line and fired it up. The bike hasn't been run on the road since 88' . Well the motor sounds ok no real noise's that alarmed me but the smoke it was producing cause's me some concern, I realize I was going to get some from the trans fluid I squirted in each cyl the day I brought it home but this thing smoked pretty steady for a good 6-7 min, then I shut it down as I didn't want to over heat it. So as this winter gets under way I'll get to play with it some more. Oh and I also have to go pick up a gift a friend gave me , it is another 78 Skunk, I'll be the second owner of this one.:D

Get you an old furnace blower fan and wire it to the high speed wire. Sit it on a milk crate and wire it to the crate. Stick it right in front of the jugs and let it rip. This is an excellent source of plenty of air to let it run for a good long time without any worries of overheating. I would let itm run a good 20 minutes or so and then shut her down...well after it has stopped smoking.

If it sits a wweek or so after that and the seals are bad, she will most likely smoke again for a few minutes upon restarting. This will at least give you an indication. Now the question is this..is it using oil at an alarming rate or just needs a few ounces now and then.

We'll see , I am going to run it again in a day or two when I get a chance. Then I have to decide what I want to do with it. The one I'm bringing home this week is pretty clean, so I may leave one stock , and do a retro mod to the other. I have a ZX9 I am pretty disappointed in that could turn into a donor towards the retro mod.

Well went this morning and picked upi the other 1000, not great but for free what the hey ;
