Folks;
I found the need to upgrade my front braking system to a better one, I have on mind to fit a set of four or six pot calipers from one of modern bikes.
1) Do somebody have tried this kind of upgrade??
2) If yes, which combination of calipers and rotors??
3) It is necessary to change the master cylinder?? I know it is better, but not sure if it is mandatory.

The bike is a 1983 GS1100E jetted and Vance & Hines exhaust, runs very strong, I cant pull hard the throttle in first gear because it goes in one wheel without so much effort.

The 4 piston GSXR Nissin calipers are my favorite to use & the mounting plates are easy to have machined. They will bolt to the stock location but won't be in the CORRECT location. Ray.

Search for Kawasaki Twinpot and you'll find a favorite set up

I don't think you'll have clearance for a set of 4 or 6 pots with the stock wheel. Maybe you do on an 1100 but not on the 1000 so I doubt it....

You could change the whole front end & wheel, that's the favoured option to get 4 or 6 pots it seems.

You can mount Kawasaki twinpots & use a GS550 larger rotor or Honda CBR rotors. Nobody has yet tried to mount them on a stock 1100 but I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work, from what we can see the stock mounting points on the forks are the same.
I have brackets if you want them.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]It's been noticed recently that a lot of people want to know what calipers are a straight swap to upgrade their bikes with no problems, and without having to go to the effort of making up a set of adapter plates.

So if your bike is listed in the same section as another bike below, you can change calipers without any worries.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]For ease I shall just call the calipers type 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Good info but the 750, 850 & 1000 all use the same calipers so there is no upgrade there, just a larger pool of spares.

There is no direct bolt on upgrade that I've come across yet.

Hi surplus
mostly its good info from oss but in this case its a little wrong on the suzuki stuff :eek: ive been banging on about it on there for years mate :rolleyes:

some of the bikes listed there have different dia discs some are flat & theres at leat 2 other different offsets + the 4 pot calipers changed slightly in their offfset in relation to the forks mid production run (yes they work but its not right)

so having said all that use the list but also measure carefully
cheers tone :)
