Front Master Cylinder Replacement

Has anyone tried one of these? Just curious before I go trying to rebuild mine and trying to source parts for it. I came across this and thought if this actually worked well, this would be a better alternative.

Bore size says 14mm. You need 5/8" or 16mm for a dual disk front bike, but 14mm is good for a single.

For a dual brake model I would buy an EX650 Master cylinder. The older ones that go with the Tokico calipers have a mirror mount, the new ones that go with the Nissen Calipers for that bike do not.
They work great.
I have a couple of different master cylinders on my shelf that I'd likely be prepared to let go cheap. If you're interested let me know, I can send you a picture or two.

What you have here is a generic Chinese master cylinder

Don't listen to the bigots who automatically equates 'Made in China' with bad or dangerous. Brembo manufactures in China, KTM works (or worked) with CFMoto. China made 19 million motorcycles in 2022, all of which presumably had front brakes and (presumably) they didn't cause 19 million deaths.

Yes, there is some crap made in China. But it is also still the high tech contract manufacturer for mission critical bits for trusted name brands.

I used something similar to what you have posted as replacement for a 40 year old corroded OEM unit on the GS650 (correct size piston) when I rebuilt it after it sat in someone's garage for 20 years, but its performance was poor; it required a too much lever effort and gave poor feel. So I replaced it with one of these an Adelin PX-1.





Also made in China and essentially a Brembo radial master cylinder copy. This is the second one I've fitted having one on the 750 and having put about 6,500 mi, they Which I like so much I got one for the 650 front brakes.

These units are well made (CNC machined) and give a significant braking and lever feed back improvement over lesser offerings with the stock calipers and pads. Fine modulation of pressure at the lever is felt in the rate of retardation at the contact patch. It ain't a Brembo but it is very functional and controllable and thus confidence inspiring. And I do wonder how much better a Brembo MC would be than the Adelin unit on stock brakes....

Anyway, my advice is that if your going to buy Chinese components, but good ones. They do make them.

Master cylinders are simple devices, so even generic China parts are likely okay. That said, I'm with Dan, and recommend the rectangular reservoir EX650 master for dual disc bikes.
