    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Guys for those who did not follow my rebuild GS750...the head is trashed since it ran out of oil...*watch you oil level folks...

Anyway.. I have a newer head on the way and the head and base gasket are already new and on the bike at the moment, like 4-5 weeks old. I figure I can probably use the same ones, as long as they don't just go crazy when taking the old head off. Anyone's thoughts if this is a bad idea... they are Atenna gaskets not OEM... and the shop wants an arm and a leg for an OEM which Id rather not pay for since the $$$ is tight enough as is.

Opinions?
 
I'd still spring for a new head gasket and base gasket. Everything else should be OK.

OEM or Vesrah are higher quality than the Athena stuff. Z1 might have a whole Vesrah set pretty cheap: http://z1enterprises.com

But if you're really skint right now, you could try it without new gaskets -- it might work out fine. If it doesn't, all you're out is some time.

Just got me an '80 750 E too.
 
I would not reuse the head gasket. You'll find out when you pull the head. I reused the base gasket. The bike had about 500 miles on it but I had to do a valve job and valve stem oil seals.
I have no leaks from the base gasket.
 
All but the head gasket should be reuseable. I have not seen a Suzuki head gasket, but they normally have a crush ring on them to seal the cylinder. It is a one-time use only.
I got a full set of Vesrah from Z1 for my GPz for ~80. It is a complete gasket set, including any orings that may be needed, as well as the valve seals.
 
Base gasket should still be fresh & reusable. Head gasket maybe ?????? you take your chances
 
if you have the time, try first with the old gaskets and see how it holds
but to do it properly and be on the safe side, you would need a new head gasket as it's a one time only type gasket with a crushable ring inserts

Don't remember what it looked like before I put it on but I believe I remember the circular parts that came from around the thing. $50 just for the OEM head gasket though.. ouch
