A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

G'Day Guys, Jack Skellington very generously gave me his very rare Gerex electronic "Multi-fire" ignition that he recently removed from his magnificent RC Engineering GS1170 Superbike.

I'll eventually install it in a GS1000SN engine I'm building with a new old stock Wiseco 1170 kit, later big port head, "Ivan Tighe" cams and Mikuni RS34mm carbs, but for the time being I'd like to try it out in my 1979 GS750E.

I'm sure that I've got everything for it, but to feel a little safer, I need a set of installation instructions so I don't accidentally fry it, which would be a terrible shame........... If anyone can email me some instructions, or point me to a website where I can find some, I'd be extremely grateful! Thanks in advance, Terry.

Is it a total loss race system ? Not famillar with Gerex.

G'Day mate, no, it's similar (I guess) to the old Dyna 3 system, you still need 12V to power it, but instead of just sparking once per cycle, it sparks several times.

I've read a little bit about them, apparently they were very highly regarded "back in the day", but also very expensive. (about 400 bucks in 1980, which was probably why they didn't sell all that many)

I've also posted this request on my other fave site, the SOHC4 (Honda 750) site, Gerex made an ignition for them too, but so far, no dice.............. Bugger! Cheers, Terry.

I had a Gerex ignition on my '79 1000 back around '81 to '84? It uses a separate "black box" (actually silver I think) that I mounted under the right cover. Hope you got the box sent too. Mine was around $350 as you said. I didn't own it that long because of problems. The shaft that goes over the crank end kept getting loose and spinning because the set screw would back off. The second time we put some blue loc-tite on it. The box also had a problem inside that was luckily replaced before the warranty was up.
I switched to a Dyna system after about 3 or 4 years.
I checked just to see if I still had the installation paperwork but as expected, I tossed it years ago. Wish I hadn't done that now. It would come in handy in this case.
I really can't remember all the installation/tuning details to help you. Sorry I couldn't help more.
I would think someone here has that ignition paperwork or there's a website somewhere.

I looked up "Gerex ignition" and didn't see anything except this...

This guy is just selling '69 to '68 honda 750 parts but he says he has an NOS Gerex ignition. His ad is 7 days old.
Maybe he still has the installation paperwork and will be kind enough to help you out?? I would think installation procedure would be the same or close enough. Hope it helps.

Well, I just clicked that link and it says it can't be displayed on interner explorer. Maybe it will work for you though.
If not, I just googled "Gerex ignition" and only 5 sites came up, with that one being the only possible help. Good luck with it.

G'Day Keith, hey thanks mate, I managed to find the ad and emailed him, I've offered to buy the whole ignition as I've got Honda 750's too, so it won't go to waste!

I read on another site that Gerry (the Gerex inventor/seller) gave the business up to go work for Ferrari, designing ignition systems for them? Anyway, thanks for your help Keith, I'll let you know if the craigslist guy gets back to me! Cheers, Terry.
