A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have an 82 850l, I am wanting to put air pods on it, so i need to reject the carbs also?

You mean rejet? Yes, you will need to rejet to run pods. Getting a Dynojet stage 3 kit is the easiest way to get it working reasonably well. If you still have the stock exhaust putting pods on is pretty much pointless. They work much, much better in combination with a performance 4-1 system.

Hopefully the bike is sorta running now with stock airbox.....get it running well, before you mess with pods- it will be much easier on your brain.

Other than going for a "look", and increasing the noise you have to listen to, and looking forward to all the "fun" of retetting, why do you want to do that? :-k

.

Was mainly for look, but was eventually going to make it more of a cafe racer.

I have been having issues with this bike. It just cranks when trying to start it also. Any suggestions?

So if I dont have the air box on will it suck too much air and not start? It acts like it isn't trying to fire but I check spark and it is nice and strong.

Well, let's go back to the beginning. Did the bike run before?
If not what have you done to revive it?

Have you read the Newbie Mistake post?

hey guys, how can i write my own post??, thanks
Justin
Hijacking someone elses' thread is not the way. Now I'm doing it too. Just trying to help you out.
Your first post should have been in the GS Owners Forum. Click on the New thread button, type away, introduce yourself and your bike, yada, yada, yada.

Then, start your own treads on any topic you like, in the approriate forum. For instance, if you have a question about carbs, post in the Technical forum Carb/Fuel/Exhaust.

Before you start a new thread on something that's probably been covered before, use the search and do some reading. If you don't find the answer, then ask away. Just do it in the right forum.

Bigt..yes it ran, but it had a bad oil leak from the headgasket. I replaced the headgasket and that was when I was going to do the pods and stuff. Right now the exhaust and air box are off. Just cranks and acts like it is not firing. I have triple checked my timing and they are still dead on

Assuming you mean start your own thread, go to the forum home page

https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/forum.php

read the announcements thread at the top to see what you should know before posting and then scroll down the forum home page and find the forum that best fits your subject, click on it and then on ?Post New Thread? and go for it.

Dont get get discouraged by wise guys either.

Ok..no change so I will start from the beginning.

1982 gs850l, headgasket was leaking oil when I bought and was unsafe to drive. Replaced the headgasket and the cam tunnel seal, triple checked timing after I put it back together, removed and cleaned the jets in the carbs whileninhad them off. Was going to install air pods but now after reading I am double thinking that. Reinstalled the air box this evening and bike just cranks. When I engage the throttle it cranks faster but just never sounds like it wants to hit. It does not pop or try and backfire. I did notice that the wire plug is for the coils is cracked. I have a 80 750 that I am going to try and steal the plug off it.any other suggestions would be great. The bike ran before this, crappy but it did run.

Cleaning the jets is only a part of it.
go to the Basscliff site and read the CV carb cleaning tutorial, and follow that
