    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pod Filters?

Hey guys!
What's the general consensus regarding pod filters instead of the factory air box?
I know on the 1979-1983 Honda CB750-1100 bikes it is not recommended because the Honda's particular carb. design requires there be somewhat of a restriction in airflow for the carbs to work properly.
I would like to run them on the 1982 1100E that I'm attempting to put back on the road.
 
From what I've seen, and read, either will work. BUT the pods will take quite a bit more tinkering to get the jetting right. Also the difference in the Cheepo pods and quality pods also makes a pretty big difference.

Just like that Honda, the BS carbs need some restriction to operate properly.
pods can be done, just prepare for plug chops
 
Deleting the stock airbox makes some maintenance tasks soo much easier, like removing the carbs in less than 4 minutes and installing them in about 10 minutes. I stopped using pods and filter socks and now use stainless screens. Used an 02 sensor to find the optimum jetting to use with the screens.

Yes, tuning with the 02 sensor took it up through jets starting at 125 mains and finishing with 160 main jets. One of my friends has a very extensive range of Mikuni jets so we were able to go through them (9 sizes) until we hit the Goldilocks size jets. To be fair this is not a stock scooter and there were other factors that contributed to the carb tune heading North from stock jets:

36 mm CV carbs

Modified valve seats and valves to match

60.5 mm Japanese Titanium race exhaust system

Yoshimura Stage 2 hollow cam shafts

1197 cc pistons installed

Screens don't suit everyone, living in a dusty area would pose problems for carb and engine wear. For me and where I live screens are fine to do the job as well as being very light which was the main reason I went with screens rather than element filters or socks. Horses for courses.

I posted about the screens to provide another alternative for intake options as screens don't appear to often on the Forum.
