A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

The views expressed in this forum are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of "The GSResources" or the editors.

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Good Ultrasonic Cleaner?

I just bought that same one...only I paid quite a bit more. That same unit is sold by quite a few different sellers. That's the cheapest I've seen it. I haven't used mine yet so can't give a review. It seems decent enough though.

Please let us know how they work. My Harbor Freight one is only capable of 1 carb at a time, the one advertised is not much more than the HF one was.

6L might be a little small. I have a 10L unit made by Prosonix in the U.S. and sometimes wish it was bigger. Try to find one made in the U.S. There's some nice used ones on ebay.

That 6L jobby is big enough to do two carb bodies at the same time.

I have a similar (stainless, heated, arrangement, construction type) but smaller unit (around 2-3L) and am very satisfied with it.

What's the proper cleaning solution for application for cleaning carb parts etc.?

Paraphrasing an earlier post of mine in a different thread; Start with distilled/demineralized water (filtrated tap water is ok as well, as long as it chalk/lime has been removed) and add some plain old dish soap (liquid) - the trick is to bring down the surface tension of the solution.

Also, heat to ~50?C. You can go higher, but in my case, that requires me to replace boiled off water from time to time if I have many pieces in there. I prefer not to babysit it, but as said, experiment and find out what works best for you.

You can always invest in some special stuff later on. Personally I didn't find any need for it so far.

This stuff was recommended to me...

I use Simple Green Pro. I get it at Home Depot by the gallon, and it's actually colored purple. I dilute it three parts water to one part SGP.

I'm sure there are other cleaners that people use, but that does a great job for me.

I just purchased the EBay cleaner 6L it's somewhere between California and Missouri will report back on results

I just got the 6L US cleaner from EBay after a few trial runs I am very im pressed with it. If photobucket didn't suck I would post photos on before and after. Will update after more use

I'm getting ****ed off because these units are 30% cheaper than I paid just a month or so back. Oh well.

I have no idea why anyone would try to clean a bank of carbs that are assembled. There is no way for the solution to get to where it's needed if you do that. Not to mention the various O-rings are going to be hard and brittle regardless so the carbs need to come apart anyway to change them.

I bought one last year, very inexpensive. I was not happy with the results and ended up finishing the set the old fashioned way. The carbs didn't look any cleaner, just a dark grey, which is not a great look.

Disassembly is much easier without the grunge all over them.

The first set I did with simple green turned out dark grey, then I put it in plain water and all the grey melted off quickly. The carbs are super clean now

Will soapy water or the simple green pro get the varnished fuel out of parts like the float bowls, jets, etc.? If not, what would I use in an ultrasonic cleaner like these units?
