A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anyone have recommendations on quality shocks at a decent price? Can i get anything decent for less than $200?

Is buying used shocks worth the uncertainty?

You can get MDIs for about $100; they're very stiff but will loosen up a tad over a few hundred miles. Also it's recommended to replace the bushings or re-use your stock bushings. Still better than sacked-out stock shocks.

Progressive has the 12 series, which, if you shop around, you can probably hit right around the $200 mark with springs.

I've heard good things about YSS shocks. Their Bravo line falls at right about $200 also.

If you know what to look for you can probably find some good deals used.

You can buy my low mileage progressives for less than $200 when I get around to putting these works shocks on... :D

What's your timescale?

Ikon shocks seem to be well thought of here. The only set I rode was on a GS1000G & they were real Ikon's (before the name change).

What progressive's are you going to be getting rid of? for my two cents worth, I bought a pair of Redwings that had progressive springs on them for somewhere around $140?? was pretty happy with them. Seemed to work pretty well with the progressive's up front.

Thanks for the offer, I probably would have bought the set from you if i didn't need them by next thursday.

I went with Hagon shocks from Dave Quinn. I'm trying to make the ride more comfortable for the co-pilot for our upcoming North Country road trip.

Stock length black progressives (they are about 5mm longer from memory like all progressives) with stock springs. Springs were the older slightly heavier (95-140 rather than 90-130 springs to mind) stock ones. Have worked great for me on the first preload bump. Got a good deal on some works Trackers otherwise I'd leave them alone.

I agree that Progressives with the stock GS springs work well for about $130.

I got the Hagons, and everything is different. Feels like a new bike; cornering, braking, bumps all feel so much better! Best upgrade yet.

Now if i can fix all the little rattles I'll be a happy camper.
