Good luck on the projects.

As for a methodology;

take pictures of wire harnes and connectors on bike
take the whole harness off
soak connectors in favorite solution ( I used dollar store rust remover)
Check wiring diagram, label connectors
check wires, connections, splices, etc
change out bullet connectors for spade
wire in weatherpack connectors to replace older less weather proof ones
apply liberal amounts of dielectric grease
test wire harness on bike for conductivity and for placement of connectors before final wire wrapping
rewrap harness

grab favorite beverage and celebrate

Cool thank you!
man i can t wait to get started!

ALLRIGHT PEOPLE!
PICTURES TIME!

I finally received my two 750.

P1030586.jpg

old man, old skin.

then i started working on unplugging/identifying the rear portion of the harness
P1030589.jpg

oh, the zone around the (old and now gone) battery was pretty much like that everywhere, yummy!
P1030587.jpg

P1030588.jpg

a friend of the PO, already did put together the two sets of carbs from both 750s
P1030592.jpg

P1030593.jpg

they actually don t look that bad, outside, we ll see what it will be for the inside part, later!

right under the battery/turnsignals relay is the worst part of the frame,
that piece is the bent one too.

wait buddy, just wait, i ll clean you good!
in fact, i ll probably end up using the other engine! but i am not sure until i open them up to compare!

later on i tried to remove the exhaust line and broke two bolts under the end part...
P1030620.jpg

P1030612.jpg

actually, i want to use the exhaust system that now sits on the partsbike, we will see.

so, i WILL heat up with a torch when i can, cos i DON T want to break these!
P1030596.jpg

P1030606.jpg

P1030609.jpg

P1030624.jpg

removed and tested the coils, they are good, according to my service manual and my multimeter. (i have two other ones working good too)

just checking if the frame is straight...
P1030611.jpg

and that s it for today!
i ll take the carbs out next weekend cos i won t be able to work on the project tomorrow, too bad!

Guys, if you have any recommendations to make! please do! it s a bit overwhelming at first i have to admit! :)

As the resident "expert" I can tell you the white bike is as it says an ES.At some point it's gotten E bars though:(.The red one is a 84,paint scheme gives it away.Put penetrating oil on the header bolts, every day for a week.Do not rush this.Did 3 exhausts and not 1 broken bolt. Also get a hand impact driver and use a 12mm socket on the end.Dr Greg's recipe for a successful exhaust bolt removal,no guarantee mind you, just a fighting chance.Hitting every bolt you are going to try to remove might be an idea to,give it time to work.BTW WD40 is not a penetrating oil, found that out in my build,I use Lloyd's Moove It.Works great, others do to I'm sure but that's what I use.

Ditto, nice catch there, I will be following with interest.
A mate of mine had a 750ES which I did many miles on, real fun bike, light and nimble and a rev monster, loved t sit in the second half of the rev counter, serious grin factor those bikes.

I think i ll try that one, want to make sure i won t break anymore bolts,
i ll try penetrating oil for a week.

is the torch technique something i can use in peace?

Never used a torch but I don't really have one either.Do what you like, just found this worked for me.

i will try your suggestion first anyway, don t get me wrong!
was just wondering if the torch thing is doable on motorcycle engines without taking unnecessary risks.

EDIT:
BTW, thanks for helping me out to find which bike was what!
what actually are the differences between a E and an ES?

The "E" has a little 1/4 fairing like this:
SDC11643-1-1-1.jpg

The "ES" has a larger fairing and different clipons. Nice score on the bikes. My 2 are still a work in progress, I work on them if and when I have any spare time. I will be following your build with interest.

Thanks Patman.

well i ll need to find a front ES fairing then! :)
or will i use a round headlight, it kinda look cool, but it s not stock... mhhh

The large round light was stock for the 84 E.Better light than the square one if that matters.
