A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I own a 81 gsx1100 wire wheel model and a 79 gs1000N wire wheel model.
I have bought a set of bare second hand hubs and want to lace 18in wider rims.2.50 front and 4.50 rear so I can run modern tires and upgrade the brakes on both.I want to swap the new wheels from one bike to the other depending on my current whim and I was wondering if the GS1000 can squeeze a 160 rear tire in on the stock swing arm???.I have read somewhere the GSX will be no problem apart from the rear brake torque arm but would like some advise on the gs1000.
I don't want to change the forks on either just some decent shocks on the back end and rebuild the stock forks so everything can be put back to original.

I think you might struggle for clearance with a 160 in a stock swinger.

You can fit one in an Aluminium 1100 Swinger which will fit on your bike... (You might have to jack the rear footpeg frames out 1/2" for clearance is all).

Either way you'll need a modified brake stay & likely an offset front sprocket / custom wheel spacer set. I don't think there is room for the chain to squeeze past a 160 as stock.

SM is right, here's a picture of a red GSX R 1100 4*18" wheel in a Katana 1100 swingarm.
On my other Kat I've used a 4.5*17 wheel with a 160 tire without any problem.
There is no clearance problem if you modify the brake stay AND you offset the chain:cool:
The red wheel is fitted left to right to check the spacers.
