GS1000E 79 to 80 rotor conversion?

I am in need of replacing the stock rear brake rotor (solid design) on my 79 GS 1000E. I see that the 80 GS 1000E had a drilled disc.
1. Would it be better to order the 80 version rotor to go on my bike?
2. Will it fit without modifications to the bike?
3. Is there less expensive options to consider that would not require additional funds or modifications to the bike?

1. Yes
2. Yes - better if you fit the later calipers with the rectangular pads though (all bolts straight on).
3. I doubt it, though check out Salty Monk's thread using Kawasaki calipers. all depends on how much you can get the used parts for.

Thanks. I had my existing OEM rotor turned and, although not perfect it looks sound enough to run with a new set of pads. If a rotor starts to warp will it shimmy the tail of the bike when riding or will the effect only be experienced when applying the brakes?
