    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Did an oil change this weekend. Sump plug came out with a copper washer on it & a compression washer which looked like it had been robbed from a spark plugas well. The compression washer was against the sump. No wonder it seeped oil slowly.

I took the spark plug washer off leaving just the copper washer but then the plug doesn't go in far enough to seal the sump. It bottoms out.

Looked in the manual, (Clymer), it used the word "Gasket".

Long story short I reversed it so copper is now against the sump & the other is just taking up the slack but out of interest for next time what should be on there??

Is it an extra thick copper washer? A Nylon one? Some sort of rubber O ring gasket affair or what??

Failing all else I'll go for multiple copper washers next time as I'll get chance to buy them in advance (nowhere open today to go get some so I had to improvise).

Are you sure the plug is really a sump plug. Sounds like a PO lost the original and picked up something at the hardware store. I'm actually surprised it bottoms out, but then again maybe Suzuki did something to keep owners from going with a longer replacement that could get in the way of the crankshaft. I'd go to BikeBandit.com and order an OEM plug and washer/gasket.
 
I'd second the motion to order an original OEM next time you're ordering up a batch o' parts.

I'm pretty sure the original "gasket" was an aluminum washer. I've been using copper for quite a while, though.

Be aware that you may have an aftermarket oversize plug in there -- it's pretty common for these threads to strip, and there are all sorts of "solutions" to this problem out there, including funky sizes of replacement plugs.
 
Sump plug washer looks like a sparkplug washer!! you say. Available from your friendly Mitsubishi Dealer. Suzuki OEM's are aluminium flat washer, if you look at the sump you will find the "sump plug" Seat is actually tapered so a nylon washer(Ford) is probably best, I work in spare parts so have tried most and a Toyota "fibre washer" is the best I have found so far.

Well it looks original, is metric & seems to work well enough now it's padded out. I think I'll go with a thick metal washer with a copper, Nylon or fibre on top against the sump next time, that'll do the trick, it's only a plug after all.

Sure, which is normal & the only thing that leads me to believe it's not the original. It seems to work well enough though "as is" right now with the 2 washers in place so why mess with a good thing?? It's only a plug after all, it's only function is to stop the oil from ending up on the floor, if it does that function then....
