A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Gs1000g, take two.

I thought the correct way was "all y'all"...maybe we stopped in Tennessee/Kentucky/Georgia too much...idk...there aren't too many accents down in Florida from what I saw/heard....but that was the Gulf side though...

I still havent heard this accent that the movies would have you believe that everyone has here lol im from memphis so mines a little thicker than the locals lol.

I put the mount upside down because i was only planning on running 1 mirror and it looked kinda goofy sticking up like an inch

I was thrown off a bit when a Pennsylvania local referred to my cousin and me as “yins”. You ins , I think..

Regarding the clip ons, here’s a pic of my Telefix ones. About 3/4 of the way down. The hey hit the top clamp, and the1150 forks can’t be slid up due to an equalizer hose. I tightened the she-it out of the single pinch bolt. Never a problem sithe early 2000s. I would still keep an eye on them as I did for a few years.

Well that makes me feel a little more confident about them

Small update.

Small update.

got a bunch of goodies in the mail for suzy II, one of which being the the brake master cyl for the front... well turns out it was packaged incorrectly and they accidentally sent a left hand master for a clutch.. sorting that out after i make this post.

on to the goodies, well some of them.

so, for a while there it is. finally suzy II is out of the weather some what.

:)

You got a Go Pro? {I also spy a steering stabilizer}
...I've got a cheaper version video camera but never tried it yet....I should, just can't figure where I want to mount it.

Nahh, its an eken 4k. Suppose to be on par with a go pro hero 3. So far i like it. Not really planning on mounting it on my bike, mostly just going to do daily vlogging because im bored, LOL. and that ?hlins damper came off a Harley i think?! Anyways i got a hell of a deal on it, 30 dollars!! The guy i got it from changed out the fluid in it to a heavier fluid but couldn't bleed it out all the way. Theres about 1/4 inch of slop in it right now. So im gonna take it down to my buddy at the local motorcycle shop and have him look at it soon. It'll end up on my 750 eventually!

ive actually never really given this thing much thought. i knew i couldnt pass it up, but other than that nothing. the original plan was to mount it to the red 10g but i never really felt it needed it, since the steering wasnt wildly aggressive. never got head shake under accel or decel. the 750 will be very aggressive, since it will see track days. so it will most definitely need it. also im not sure what wht. oil to use with it.

I havent ridden with them yet, so i cant confirm or deny this, but others have stated that the bolts loosen up when you ride with similar units. After hearing about that I hit all the bolts with a small impact.

I tightened the she-it out of the single pinch bolt.

And here I would have thought that the proper application of a torque wrench would be the correct answer. You guys don't worry about critical fasteners failing from chainsaw mechanical work like massively over torquing bolts at random? I like to know things are correctly tightened on motorcycles that I sit on top of while they are moving.

there was no specific torque stated.

there was no specific torque stated.

Every size of bolt has a maximum torque, I would look through my manual and find torque numbers for the same size/type of bolt or go online and find torque values. I am an engineer and a big believer in proper torquing of every critical fastener because I have seen enough failures caused by improper fastener torque to know it matters.

I understand.
But, in my experiences as a gm technician, you get a feel for whats acceptable in this situation. Now obviously im not going to use my big half inch drive air gun.. i have a 1/4 inch specific for this sort of thing. Now if i had to guess the recommended trq spec would probably only be 5 to 13 ftlbs with somthing like this. But i just burped it on with the gun. Shouldn't be much tighter than that anyhow.

I have heard this from a fair number of mechanics and it is usually wrong. I'm not dumping on you, this is a human nature thing and is widespread. Studies have been done where trained, experienced mechanics were asked to tighten various size fasteners by hand without a torque wrench. Invariably they over tighten small fasteners and under tighten large ones. Your example may be better because you used an impact that you know the level of torque output for, but it's worth keeping in mind that even well trained, experienced guys do a poor job of torquing fasteners by feel.

Now back to our regular programming...

Be sure to post pictures!
The bike will need to be lowered, in my case 31mm. Ill post a better pic of that tonight when i get home

You are 100% correct there and a lot of people fail to follow torque specs! There is a minimum and maximum torque for all fasteners. Don't know the spec on the bolt your torquing for something critical? Change the bolt to a spec'd one!

It's funny, a certain individual on this forum belittled me because I made a statement similar to that in another thread, said I was a quack because I followed the FSM/manuals for torque values .

Removable loctite is a great idea on all critical fasteners as are lock washers or safety wire if wanted.
