A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey GSer's

Picked up my 2nd gs last august and just finished it this year with a huge amount of help from all the knowledge on this site. Completed all the recommended upgrades and service. The bike runs great, charging well, idles at 1000 rpm. It is a 1980 GS1000G. The only problem I have is that there is a increased amount of vibration at 3000 rpm and goes away around 4000 rpm, it does not matter if it is in neutral or in gear. It runs through the handlebars and tank and seat. The only thing I can come up with is when it is going from the slow system to the main system in the carbs something is not right. Is this normal, My 1982 GS650G does not do this, It smooth from 1000 rpm all the way to full throttle. Any help would be much appreciated, the bike has 14,000 miles on it.

Thanks

I'm going to say that's not normal. I'd love to recommend a troubleshooting method (other than checking all the stuff you know is right), but I'm never had to solve that particular problem.

Sounds normal. You may want to vacuum sync the carbs if you haven't done it lately. Can't hurt anyway.

Make sure the engine mounts are tight. Sync the carbs. Make sure the tank & seat have all their rubbers in place (fresh ones). Add some weight or a bar snake to the handlebars. :)

Thanks guys,
New intake orings, valve clearances are between .0025 and .003 1000ths of an inch, cleaned and synced carbs at 1500 rpm, slightly less vacuum reading on # 2 & 3 cylinders. I might have a small air leak cause the idle stop screw is turned all the way out and it will not idle below 1000 rpm when warm. I might resync in the spring and maybe new intake boots even though they looked fine, very soft and no cracks. just thought I would ask for input.
