GS1000s centre stand

Hi,
Have a strange problem with a 'finished' GS1000S project where the centre stand clashes with the standard exhaust silencer when in the up position.
The stand was an ebay replacement and fits / works perfectly but the bit that sticks out doesn't clear the silencer or allow the stand to fully retract etc.
I wondered if it was the wrong stand (off another GS model maybe) or if the sticky-out bit was maybe bent although all looks fine.
Any ideas very welcome.

Cheers,
Andy

Probably the wrong stand, post up a picture of the problem for us to see

the stand should come up to the small bumper below the left rear foot peg, and the "arm" you step on wraps around the left silencer

Is yours a 79, or an 80?

Thanks Big T and sorry for slow reply
Picture below hopefully shows the problem.
Stand seems undamaged so I don't think it's bent out of shape although this may be the case.
I have some other photos but get the message that only 1 file can be attached to a post (may well be my lack of ability on forum stuff)

Thanks
Andy

Part # for an "80" GS1000S Center stand (42100-49102) is different from any other standard GS1000 chain dr. (42100-001), even different from the "79" GS1000S. Probably due to the different exhaust system. The"80" thru "83" model 750E's & 1100E's & most 750"L", 1000"L", & "80" GS1100L chain drive models use this same part #.

Thanks
That's a bu**er - the bike came without the centrestand so I was really pleased to find a fairly decent one on ebay which I spent a few happy hours tidying up before powder-coating.
It must be a quite minor difference as it almost clears the silencer.
Guess it's back to searching for the right one.
Cheers,
Andy

Hey, be sure to check that information, & part #'s, for yourself, before going back to ebay. I'm known for not always being correct. & yes, the different shape of the later model exhaust probably didn't require very much of a modification of the stand. Good luck.

Thanks,
I think this could be tricky - having a look at various GS1000 / GS1000S fiches it's not clear which stand I have or need!
Mine's a 1979 model and looking at the fiche for this model the part no is the same as the GS1000E etc. - the 1980 'S' model does have a different part number though.
I think I'll try playing with the one I've got - maybe a small bend on the arm would clear the silencer and allow the stand to retract fully.
Something to leave on the list of 'final' jobs I guess
Cheers,
Andy

Andy, this is my 78 1000
The stand should clear the silencer by an inch
