    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello, I am a new person to the forums looking for a little help. My bike is a 1982 GS1100G all stock. I have cleaned the carbs not sonic bath. But a got wash down, air comp. etc. the problem I am having is my number two cylinder is not fireing ( per say), I have layed the plug out on the cylinder and get a very good spark(blue). There is raw fuel that dumps out of the exhaust pipe for number two. I realize that the petcock vacuum runs off the number two cylinder and I have rebuild the petcock and it only runs when the bike is runing.

I am waiting on a compression tester. maybe today (its from a buddy). It has enough to blow my finger off though. I have checked the float height (good). I am either suspecting the choke circuit on that carb is either sticking. I cannot see it being electrical as the other cylinders run good, I will also try swapping 2 and 3 since there on the same coil. ohhh yeah the bike will run but is very sluggish untill 3grand plus. A new stator was added by a previous owner. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, here you will find all the information you will ever need and have the best GS brains on this planet, to help you out.

Have you tried another plug in there? I know you said it delivered spark when grounded to the case, but it may be good out in the free air, but breaking down under the condtions of fuel and combustion pressure inside the cylinder.
Also, what are the valve clearances like, you may have a tight valve on that cylinder, which is best sorted before it gets burnt, the compresion test will tell the story.

From what you describe, it does sound a bit like a fuel issue, but costs nothing to check the above, maybe time for a carb strip down and clean, Basscliff should be along in a while with his own special welcome and links to all you could ever need, including an excellent carb cleaning tutorial.

Oh yes, and we like pictures, lots of them............of the bike. ;)

Agreed -- a couple of cues lead me to believe that the vacuum diaphragm in the petcock may be bad, and it's sucking excess gas into #2 through the vacuum line.

The petcock rebuild kits are well-known to be hit or miss.
 
Ok done the comp test reads cylinder 1 150,140,120,150. I am going to check the pep cock again and will install a manual shut off valve after the pepcock. the only thing left to check is the vacuum line from the tank ill put a clr line in to see if gas comes through, I guess I will take apart the carbs and prob get them ultra sonic cleaned for the body and a whole new carb rebuild. I really appreciate all the comments and will post pics. This is my first GS and am excited to get it going.
 
Just keep at it and take the good advise here on the forum, there are no stupid questions, so post away, and you will have that bike purring in no time at all.
