If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I see Mcmaster Carr has flex hones, has anybody used them. Also I was reading over the weekend and alot of people are recomending a 240 grit hone saying it is the ideal grit for seating in new rings? I thought I would verify here as you guys know these bikes inside and out.

Cheers
Paul

Went ahead and ordered the 240 grit hone.
I am placing my order for gaskets and when I look up the cylinder base gasket they show o-rings seperate for the studs and the other option show no seperate o-rings. Mine have the seperate o-rings. So my choice is either 11241-00A10 or 11241-00A02? I know Chef said the 11241-00A02 is the right one but two options are offered?
Does 11241-00A02 have the o-rings built into the gasket?
Man this can get confusing.

Cheers
Paul

Suzuki uses a steel/chrome top ring, and 320 grit is generally recommended for that type of ring. 240 will work, but will just be a little rough. I've done this research already thus my recommendation for 320 above.

This is a good read about the various grit hones and their recommended usage...http://www.enginehones.com/technical.html

No seperate o-rings on the gasket. There are crush washers built into the MLS gasket.

So the o-rings are only used if you use 11241-00A10 gasket?
Was this a design change of some kind?

Well bad news, I just honed my cylinders and one has a vertical scratch that you can feel with your nail and one cylinder looks like it had a little rust in it and you can feel that with your nail as well. That was the cylinder with the lowest compression. Both are in the ring travel area.
This sucks, so now I guess its a bore out to oversized rings?

Damm these old bikes get frustrating.
I am glad I haven't ordered my rings yet.

Cheers
Paul

I never was aware of seperate o-rings on the sixteen valve 1100/1150 motor.
Doesn't mean there weren't though.
RAY????

I don't have alot of money to put into this, was trying to keep it fairly low.
Can you get 1mm oversized rings? plus I have to find a machine shop near me to do the re-bore.
Almost tempted to put my Gsxr1052 lump into it.

Man I don't see rings or pistons of any kind available from Suzuki for the 1150.
Geez
Keep an eye on Ebay for 1150 cylinders and I know rapidray has some.

I would check out the price of oversize pistons and rings. Over here fitting a Wiseco kit is by far the cheapest way to go.

Will that scratch hone out or is it too deep? Maybe worth trying and measuring if you're on a tight budget.

Yes Chef I don't see any oversize rings either. Damm.
Hampshire how big could I hone too? Bores are 74mm right now.
I have done 50 up/down strokes on each cylinder so far with a 240 grit hone.

If you have a manual find out the specs for your cylinders.
If you know a good machinest get him to measure them for you if you don't know how (you need a special tool)
If you don't have a manual ask rapidray.

Thanks Chef will do.
I do have bore micrometers but not that big.
Will look up the specs, I'm hoping I can open them up a little bit.

Paul

Not going to work. the scratch is too deep. Service limit on the cylinder is 74.08
Now I will have to try and find a good cylinder with stock bores.
The hunt begins!! lol

Cheers Guys
Paul

I think rings are still available

Part#*12140-00A24 Desc*RING SET PISTON

I have one set of brand new original Suzuki 1150 rings if that helps get you started...

Thanks Nessism I was looking for oversize rings but they all show discontinued.

Part numbers were:
12103-00820-050 (.5mm oversize)
12103-00820-100 (1mm oversize)

Looks like all the pistons and rings are discontinued other than the STD rings.
Just in case you didn't know, you can't use OS rings on a STD piston.

I didn't know that, thanks for the tip.
I'm hoping to find a stock cylinder so then I can order std rings.
Don't have enough funds to do a rebore and piston kit.

If it's only the one bore that has gone you can re-sleeve that pot. That's probably your cheapest route.
