A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

A few months back I noticed that my speedometer needle started to jump around while riding. After a month or two, it just stopped working. I removed the speedo gauge and attempted to "troubleshoot" myself. Well, long story short I cracked the case and now I'm pretty sure I just need a new speedometer. I checked eBay and prices are a bit ridiculous... in the $100 range. I am willing to consider aftermarket at this point. What are my options?

Also, I plan to sell the bike in the spring and now I'm concerned how this is going to effect the sale. I have been keeping a maintenance log based on miles since I bought it (about 2000 miles ago), so I can prove mileage up to this point, but I'm not sure how that will look to a buyer. Anyone have experience with this?

The bike is a 1982 GS450.

I know theirs a thread and some info on the forum on how to take the gauges comepletely apart and repair them..I did mine when I got the bike in 2009...I had condensation and ended pulling them all apart cleaning the glass both sides, repainting the tach and speed needles and re-assembling them..tedious job but look like new when your done..use the search function and try "gauges".

Do you mean this post? http://www.thegsresources.com/garage/gs_inside_gauges.htm

I used that approach and ended up cutting too close to the surface, basically causing the face plate to chip and crack along the outside.

I guess I'll just look for a used one on eBay that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, as aftermarket gauges seem to be just as pricey.

Their was a different post someplace..no cutting involved...simple screwdriver to carefully pry the rings away from the housings and press them back together....but yeah...aftermarket gauges are just as spendy as some used ones.
