A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi to all as title says i,m going to be changing the clutch plates soon just after a few pointers really.
when i get to the stage of installing the gasket is it worth using instant gasket as well as the gasket for a belt and braces
fix or am i just going overboard and stick to just the gasket.

have read that you need to soak the fiber plates in oil before install but how long would i need to soak them for.
Ie overnight or an hour or two.

The last clutch i changed was a VF750s back in the early ninties and i just whacked those straight in.

any advice really appreciated as i dont wont anything to go wrong only want to do this once.
its a nice ish day today and i,m giving her a run as i have spent most of this morning cleaning and polishing.

cheers,mark.

No need for any sealer on the gasket, assuming an OEM gasket that is. If using aftermarket gaskets, all bets are off though.

Be sure to use new OEM clutch springs. Most of the time the clutch plates last the life of the bike but the springs loose tension over time and become the lose link in the chain.

Soaking the plates overnight is the standard but I'm not exactly sure why?

Thanks been looking on flea bay for gaskets vesrah do one but its from usa, saying that all oem are from usa
if i ordered one would it survive the journey.
thats why i asked about instant gasket as it seems here in the uk its all aftermarket.
new plates,new springs.

If you only want one gasket why not order one ?16-61 Here + new clutch springs ?2-53 each Here Oem. if you order from USA you will pay import duty + the Royal Mail will charge you ?8 for the pleasure of collecting the duty.
unless you are very lucky and the parcel flys under the radar.
will it survive the journey who knows.
personally for what you require I would buy here in uk. Check Robinsons as well for prices Here
