GS750E stumble at small throttle openings

Hi Guys,

I've just joined this forum as I've just picked up a GS750E.

The bike runs beautifully with one small execption. When opening the throttle from small throttle openings the bike engine will stumble a little bit before picking up and going as normal. This only happens when it's warmed up - when cold it runs perfectly.

What happens is this: at idle if I blip the throttle the engine sort of dies a little before picking up. When riding along at a steady 60Kph to maybe 80Kph and I open the throttle same thing happens. When down changing blipping the throttle doesn't really achieve anything as the engine bogs down at each blip. When taking off from a standstill I have to rev the engine to "clear" it before taking off otherwise I get a big stumble before picking up. It takes maybe half a second for it to pick up again then goes well.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Clogged pilot jet? Have you properly cleaned the carbs? The instructions are on the homepage of The GS Resources. Look for your "mega-welcome" in your other thread. It's got all the poop.

Clogged pilot jet as BassCliff mentioned, carbs out of sync or float height is off... Thats where I would start...Also, are the intake boots and O-rings in good condition?

Thanks guys. That's where I was heading too. I've only had the bike a couple of days. The machine has been looked after very well so I assume everything is in good condition.

I'll pull the carbs sometime soon and do the usual checks etc as suggested.

My 550E did that as well; the PO had the idle turned up to cope with a poor idle issue. I believe this gave the engine more fuel than it could properly cope with at low RPM. I have since pulled the carbs and found them to have been half destroyed from who ever tried to clean them before. Even with the ugly innards everything is much more smooth now that my idle circuit is clear. I'm told GUNK makes the absolute best dip ever if you need to go that far. And there's a guy up here who sells carb balancers with all the doohickeys for $80 (I trust him So you don't have to spend $200-$300 for your tools.)

I've got a carb balancer already and will get to that soon. Things are a bit hectic around here at present and haven't had time to get the carbs cleaned.
