    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS850G airbox gaskets

The aibox gaskets on my 1980 GS850G are old and distorted and are nearly impossible to put back on after I remove them. The one is actually broken in half and causes water to leak into the airbox. I called my local dealer to see if they were still available. He couldn't even find any mention of an airbox gasket at all. I looked and there isn't a part number on them. I called Suzuki and they said there is no mention of a gasket on their micro-fische parts guide. How can this be? It would be one thing if they said they were no longer available, but to not even mention them seems very odd. Does anybody know where I might find a set of these or know if they are called something else? I tried the search feature and found some ideas how to make gaskets, but I would rather get the right gaskets if possible. Somebody out there must have run into this before. Please help a confused fellow GS'er.
 
dear confused, i doubt they are available they probably were only part of the covers, thats why they may not show them. use sticky foam tape (i did) or what has been suggested.. a mouse pad cut to fit and glued on. now your name should be un-confused.

Nope, you can't get 'em.

Everyone just makes their own with self-adhesive weatherstripping. I can't remember whether I used 3/8 or 1/2 inch thick.

Just to be extra-special, I used that nasty yellow weatherstripping cement to join the corners. It all holds up surprisingly well -- I've only had to re-do mine once in eight years.
 
Thanks guys. I will have to take a ride to Home Depot and get some weather stripping tape I guess. One question though. Do you guys just go around the outside of the opening or do you go across the center piece too. Thanks again.
 
I've gone with the mouse pad idea, if your careful you can get both your gaskets out of one pad. Seems to work perfectly. Also use piece of 3/4'' weather stripping across the center. So far, so good.

The weather stripping around the box works good too.
 
Taking that you mean airbox to carb gaskets the GS1000's were an integral part of the airbox so you couldn't replace them.

On the GS1100ES these are seperate. I'm not sure what size the carbs are or the length that you need but it could be another way of replacing them if it was too bad. These things cost about ?9 each here in the UK.
