A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GSX LH switch-block...

pmcburney

Forum Newbie
Has anyone successfully repaired a worn (wobbly?) LH GSX switch-block ?
This is the four-way, 'all-in-one' switch arrangement...

My Kat's switch knob is hanging out some way from the face of the block. I know it's fairly common and I think it's to do with where that knob fits into the switch beneath.

Any info greatly appreciated

Hi Paul, got your PM thanks, I'll contact you soon on that. As for the switch block, I have pulled it apart to clean the slide contacts and remove the gunge that builds up in there so Iam not sure if that qualifies as repairs. The first time I pulled it apart I let the spring and very small ball bearing that engages the indicator stop fly out and bounce around the floor, long strip of magnetic tape helped out there. When taking the switch apart remember there is one of the mounting screws for the circuit board that is hidden by the wiring and is difficult to see, yeah I missed it and cracked the board before I realised it was there. By wobbly, do you mean the stepped pyramid switch itself is wobbly? Once you have the switches apart you should be able to see what the problem with the switch is, good luck with it, cheers.

Hi Shin-Ken,

Yep, that's exactly what I meant, and I've discovered the problem...

The 'pyramid' knob has on its base a 'T' which fits into the sliding switch for the indicator part of the switchblock.

Commonly, one half of the 'T' breaks off. The knob can still move the switch but it hangs out slightly. The easiest fix is to turn the knob upside-down (which I've done).

It's only to pass a roadworthy, which it should now do because it doesn't hang out, but it's still a bit wobbly. I'll figure out a long term fix at a later stage and publish it here...

Thanks for the reply
Cheers
Paul

One side of the tee broke off on me and I used some "Super Glue" to reattach it. So far it's working fine. Those switches are a joy!
