    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

gsx1100 gs1000 carbs????

hello, firstly thanks for my mega welcome and advice, secondly my question is i own a 1980 gs1000e with mikuni slide carbs, however ive just bought(hasnt arrived yet) a 1981 gsx1100ex engine for direct replacment and i would like to know if anybody out there knows if my gs1000 carbs will fit the gsx1100 engine?? and if not what sort of carbs do i need, many thanks, oh and great site. mr macmondo:confused:
 
Macmondo - greetings to another Brit. The 1100 motor will drop in your frame easily enough but your slide carbs won't fit. You'll need to get hold of CV carbs or possibly these:

(Never seen them before so i know nothing about them - may be someone else does)

Are you sure they're slide carbs by the way - VM series? If your 1000 is a 'true' 1980 (rather than a 79 which didn't sell till 80) you'd have CV carbs. CV carbs do have slides by the way, but they have a butterfly valve on the airbox side and a flat top which is the simplest way to id them.

Oh, by the way I checked out your other post - don't call it a gas tank it's for petrol\\:D/. Gas is about 2 peanuts a gallon in the US and here petrol is about a million quid a squirt - that's the difference!
 
It won't be that much longer until gas is just as expensive here as it is in the UK. We're up to over 4 dollars a gallon now. Just one more reason to get my bike back on the road....sheeesh...

Thanks for that advice think that is a really good idea and am looking into that rite now will let you know how it goes many thanks mac.!!
