A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GSXR 1052 engine in GS 1000 frame

Very good news today: the engine started with almost no difficulty!
I say almost as after a few negative tries, I decided to exchange the spark plug leads between the 1/4 and 2/3 cylinders.
Not obvious to identify in the documentation I have...
Quite a stressfull moment as the engine was second hand, so as the CDI and the carbs but all from different sources.
That combined with GS 1000 coils.
A major morale booster for sure

Got the Koso rev counter hooked up yesterday.
Quite easy, I took the signal direcly from the trigger input of the CDI.

I got the gear lever in place today.
Not obvious as it had to be 310 mm long.
In the end I used three rods to get the job done as an odd number is required to get the right male thread ( left and right) on each side.

I changed my rear wheel today, going from the 6 spoke 18" GSXR wheel to the 3 spoke 4.5*18 used on the 1988 model.
The main reason beeing that it has the same spoke pattern as the front R6 wheel.
It's also .5" wider allowing the use of a 160 wide tire.

Looking good.. :)
Thanks!
The good news is that I took the bike out for a (very) short ride today.
It's quite amazing...
The engine likes to rev and the "Devil" exhaust gives a deep grumble that's not too loud thanks to the db killer.
The bike feels quite light allthough the long wheelbase doesn't help in sharp corners.
Suspension is on the firm side but I haven't adjusted anything so far.
The position on the bike is sporty but seems acceptable for one or two hour rides.
To be confirmed off course.
As I had ridden my GS 1000 ST a couple of hours earlier, there is no comparaison possible.
The bike feels of "one piece" like any modern bike mostly due to the suspension components ( R6 rsu front fork and Ohlins monoshocked rear )
Definitely looking forward to ride it more.
