GER144,
NICE bikes!
-KR

Thanks Bad Kaw!
Yor 1150 looks good as well, it should be pretty cool if you do the TL front end and the 5.5" wheel. It's amazing how good these old bikes can handle with modern sized wheels and good rubber. My Katana's handling improved huge (except for right handers of course, the sidewinder drags). But like I said, it's more of a straightliner anyways so it's not that big of a deal.
I run Metzeler M3 rubber, braided lines, good pads, progressive springs, and I also converted it to #530 chain. The bike is coming along very well, I would still like to paint it, but maybe not until next year?

"Ludicrous Speed", thats a good one isleoman!!

Bad Kaw,

I may have given you some bad advice. I did a quick check on the JT sprocket site and its showing that the GS1150 have 102 links for 630 chain.

The GS1100 use 96 links for 630 chain

When you convert 96 links of 630 to 530 chain it works out to 116 links.

The 04-06 R1s use 116 links of DID ZVM2 the 07-08 use 118 links of DID ZVM2.

If I'm doing my math right you may need 123 links. You should do some research and make sure before you buy.

The other inaccuracy in my post was the DID model #. their best chain is the ZVM2

I don't think used R1 chains are going to be an option. I didn't realize the the 1150 had that many links

Isleoman,
Well, see that?...that's why I'm here: you guys are the guys in-the-know. That was a good save Isleoman. But, it's such good advice that I might use one of those R1 chains on one of my other projects that I've got going on.\\:D/ Yeah, the ol' 1150 is a bit of a stretch, so even though I didn't know it's that much of a stretch, it's still cool that you guys do know.

GER144,
Thanks man...but truth to be told the 1150 is quite a roach up-close-and-personal. It'd been stolen 3 times and parked for 9 years when I got it (back in '97). I've been whittling away at it since I moved back to Kansas in 97, but it's always been on a back burner b/c of other projects. I've put inverted suspension and big 17"s on two other old school bikes (they're green:shock:) and now everything is sort of falling in place for the 1150, so I think I might have it on the road by the end of the month. There is a long story behind this bike, but anyway, I really wanted the thing and now it's in my garage. I've never even ridden one, but I've always had massive respect for them so I'm pretty excited to land this thing, regardless of condition.

Stay tuned, eh? [-o<

Bad kaw, sounds like you have a bit of a story with that 1150! Stolen 3 times, wow! Glad to hear you have it back.

Looks like you have some pretty cool/interesting bikes in your stable according to your list!

DSCN0056.jpg

The front fork is a '95 GSXR unit held with a Honda CBR954 triple clamp. Wheels and brakes are '89 GSXR 750. The swingarm is stock with a Works Performance shock. Front rotors are PFM ductile iron floaters. Clipons came off of a Ducati. Headlight brackets can be tough. I ended up putting out $180 for a set. I don't think I paid that much for the fork.

Did you do something to raise the rear suspension?

Yes, quite the story. It was stolen 3 times and that's why I got it! Ha! After the 3rd time being stolen jacked up the fuel tank and the ignition the owner parked it for years (I'll edit the story here for length) and then bought a TL1000S when they first came out. He stopped by the shop (Outrider...now Hammyboy's) in Santa Monica and whined about the 'instability' of his TL. When I went out to look at his bike his buddy was on an '83 CB1100F and I was geekin' on that thing trying to shake this guy off and tell him "just lower the front end 4mm and you're good". He had no mech skills and eventually talked me into doing it for him. I still didn't care when he came back raving about how his TL "handles fantastic now", me and the CB guy were geekin' old-school style. This guy says that if I like that old sled I should come buy his 1150 off him for cheap. (again, I edit) 4 hours and $200 later I'm loading up my new-to-me 1150.
It's rough now...it was an absolute roach when I got it...can you imagine a $200 GS1150ES???...it was baaaaaad. Anyway, I've done a LOT to it, but I'm getting long winded already and all the pigs in my garage have some kind of semi-cool story...it's what happens when you're a cheap bastich like me!

Nope, just a little adjusting to get the preload right for my weight. I did trim up the rear fender so it may add to the open look out back.

Very nice! I like!

These are some sweet bikes, I like the conversions. Some if not most of this stuff is just beyond my reach however. If you want to convert your 65 inline 6 mustang to a V8 with all the braking capabilities than I can help you out but I never had much experience wrenching on bikes to the point of knowing:

why I should upgrade
what parts to look for
how to get it done

I need to find a bike guru in my area to show me what it is you guys are talking about half the time. Hell I haven't even really figured out other than where the vavles are located, how to get them adjusted. But this site is still a blast to check out and fill my head with knowledge.

Bad Kaw, I know this shop! I took my GS there a long time ago and had the carbs rejetted when I replaced my exhaust. Do you work there? Would be cool to meet you and show you my GS with the GSXR conversion.
Kich

Here is a link to my project.

kichigai,
Funny that you wrote this; I just read your post on another thread and noticed your address in Culver City, so I dropped you a line. I used to live in El Segundo when I worked at Outrider. I was there from '95 - '97 and worked there with Paul (the mechanic) and Noam (Norm) when he used to own it. I moved back to Kansas for my grad-studies, met a hot chick that is so far out of my league that I had to marry her, got a couple kids now and teach at a university...Kansas is pretty laid back so we're probably staying.
That being said, we're coming out to the coast in a couple weeks for a wedding...but it'll be up near San Fransisco. We do get out there about every couple years to see some friends...if we get that way I'll give you a ring and we can jam up to the Rock Store or something? BTW: I love your bike: ('83 GS1100ES?...hard to tell from the photo...but I'm going to go check out your link to your bike now.). Good meeting you! Maybe we can meet-up sometime...or if you get out this way (riiiiiight) drop us a line, we're friendly country people!
:-D

What's up saffa?

Saffa what year GSXR front end did you use?

Thanks, Supavert

front and back from a 93/94 gsxr 750 wp .

another waterboiler dies so that my dinosaur may live on :-D

Midway through my project, my bike looks like this. 2004 GSXR 1000 front end, 2005/2006 GSXR rear end with monoshock conversion. Needs paint, a new pipe and a motor rebuild...recently acquired a cut down seat to replace the stocker, not shown.

Hi, new guy here.... what kinda work, mod or parts had to be done or swapped in to make the front end work, bearing wise?
Thanks

Front end was pretty easy. Just a top and bottom bearing swap on the GSXR steering stem and it bolted right up. Had to weld some new steering stops to the frame as well. If you want more detailed info, lemme know.
