    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hagon rear shocks

I am thinking about buying Hagons for my GS550. Just the standard Hagon's. I will not ride with a passenger so I was thinking about which spring to have fitted. The standard spring os okay for riders from 75 to a 100 kg but I read on here that some say the Hagon's are a bit hard.
Which Hagons did you have fitted to your GS550 and what do you think of them?
When I asked the main agent in the Netherlands they said that they didn't get these sort of complaints about them.

Hagons are fine - I've never found them too hard. The only complaint I have about them is that the chrome on the springs isn't as good as it used to be and if you don't keep them clean in the winter they'll get pitted.

Now that sounds good to me:). Now I noticed on some photo's that it is a straight spring and on some photo's the spring is a bit fatter in the middle. Which one do you have or does it not matter?

The 35003SA model with the black bodies. They didn't have the stainless ones when I last bought some but I would have thought for ?40 it would be worth the extra.
 
Is the black paint not so good or just for looks you mean?

They make the shock bodies in four different levels of damping, they are sort of hard, really hard, hard as FvcK, and way too Fvcking hard.

Get the right ones.
 
I haven't heard of these 4 levels of damping on a standard shocker from Hagon.
 
They have different names for them, but they do come in four levels. Do a little research, they like to sell the stiff ones.
 
I did look into them butno mention of 4 levels. I can't find it on their site where does your info come from?

I asked the main agent here. They can supply with other springs but not damping levels . I also checked on the UK site but no mention about that. Do youhave them fitted on your bike?
 
If you phone Hagon in the UK they'll sort out exactly the shocks you want. The black finish is ok but the stainless is just better in my opinion.

I did, a GS 650G. Sold the bike, partly because of the ride, partly because I got tired of it. The spring rates were fine, damping was way hard. Just way too much compression damping. Thisis when I started asking about the different damping rates. Apparently a lot of riders enjoy getting their asses and backbones pounded.

Now have the Hagons with the adjustable damping now on my 550, much better if you turn the damping way down. Set up to six or eight it's bone jarring just like the first pair.
 
I will check with Hagon UK again. I think that if they have other damping levels it should be on their site. I can't find it though. I have seen their latest shocher which had adjustable damping. But nothing about in on the others.

I would have thought so too, but they hid it pretty well. On the other hand you can't expect them to use the same level of damping for a GS 250 with a 110 lb rider and a fat guy and his fat wife on an 1100GK.

What about this... right from the link you posted.

Shock bodies are available in Soft, Medium, Hard and Extra Hard damping levels; Hagons' spec for your bike and our experience with USA models will tell us the length and damping level that your bike needs, and the mounting bushings that will need to be fitted. It is useful if you measure your current shocks' length and bush sizes before you order so we can reconfirm your specs.

There you go. For some reason they love to sell shocks with rock hard compression damping.
 
So which damping level do you recommend Tom? Need shocks for the KZ750. 200 lbs with gear and riding solo 90% of the time.

Sadly I don't know which is which. The damping on the shocks they sold me for my 650G would have probably been fine for couple on a GK. But I don't know which level it was. Bought them from Dave Quinn, he was no help at all with service after the sale. Didn't even tell me about the different damping levels. The damping adjustable 2810s seem good, on the 550 I'm running around with the damping on about level 2 of 10, it's pretty comfy. OK anyway. Still might not be the most comfortable shocks, don't know yet. Need to get the forks sprung right with the emulators set and then go play with the shocks again to know for sure.

I may be done with Hagon. I never hear of these troubles from those who buy Progressives or IKONs.
