A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi folks,
I started up my recently rebuilt gsx1100 motor the other day and one of the half moon seals on the rocker cover popped out ! Any idea why this should happen ?....compression is excellent by the way
Cheers paxo

Did you clean the lower sealing surface with brake cleaner/lacquer thinner to remove any traces of oil?
Did you apply a thin layer of Permatex Ultra Black to the lip?

Three Bond sealer on the curved portion of the half moon is recommended. Also, check your crankcase breather to make sure the crankcase is not building pressure.

Hi Mr. paxo,

I've recently started installing the "half moons" backwards (lip on the inside) so as to lessen the chance of losing one or having it leak. Use a thin smear of your favorite gasket sealer only on the curved side.

Let me dump a TON of information on you and share some GS lovin'. :D

I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.

cheers for the advice folks and thanks for the welcome !!! I had cleaned the surfaces properly ( or so I thought !!) I quite like the idea of reversing the seals so the lip is on the inside as a little extra insurance.... I might try that. I am also thinking of fitting an extra crankcase breather...anywhere in the uk you can buy these as a kit ? the ones that fit to the oil filler
Cheers paxo

You don't need an extra breather. Just make sure your bike is properly maintained and call it done.

Though if you want one for looks HEL can sort you out.

By the way - we should all tell you to get stuffed (Yanks won't get it). Any reason for the nickname? Welcome to the club; which part of this green and unseasonably warm isle are you in?
