I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Help - 1980 GS1000G - Carb Body Replacement Alternatives

All - I just picked up a 1980 GS1000G with 22,000 miles on it...all-in-all looks to be in good shape but it came with 2 boxes of Mikuni carbs/parts. One box from the original bike that the owner started cleaning but then they sat for 4-5 years. The 4 carb was completely disassembled and covered in white powder/corrosion and has a broken main jet post. The others (1-3) look to be in pretty good shape (haven't pull them fully apart yet) though they will need a thorough cleaning/restoration. In addition, I also have another box with a full rack of carbs but I don't know what bike they came from (maybe KZ1000?) that the own said he was going to use as a parts source? However, they are not identical and the 4 carb has a broken float post.

I can't seem to find any model details/stamps on either set. My question is - I would like to try to restore the original set but at a minimum I need a 4 carb body as a replacement before I start doing anything. Where might I source this? What is the proper Mikuni model for the 80 GS1000G? Are there any other model bikes (Suzuki or otherwise) that I can buy a parts carb rack from and safely swap out parts/full body from?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I am new to the restoration process and I have tried to do some research but I can't seem to find a simple answer to these questions.

First off, welcome to the forum.

Second, please check my signature for the Mikuni CV carb tutorial, which will help you.

The carbs in question are Mikuni BS34's. They are quite common, but there are differences across the family. The air jets for example, some of which are pressed into the carb body, are different between the 1000G and 1100 family of BS34's. Does it matter? I doubt it, but I'm not positive. The KZ carbs may be able to be used complete, but I wouldn't try to mix and match carb bodies between the sets.

The forum software has a glitch where posting numbers switches to words. That said, please write out what carb you need. I have some spares and may be able to help. I also have O-ring kits that come in handy. PM me for info...

You say you are looking for a number 4 carb. Are you numbering the carbs correctly?
Number 1 is under your clutch hand, Number 4 is under your throttle hand.

Yep - I am looking for a carb body for the number four cylinder on the throttle side. Or if necessary, I will take a full rack of a BS34 carbs coming from a GS1000G (80-83) that I will pull parts from as long as it is not too expensive. Thanks for clarifying.
