A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

If you want to ride and not wrench......RUN AWAY FAST. You should be able to find a very road ready GS for $1k that has not been butchered.

Ok guys it has 58872 miles and its a complete bike and everything is there and i have a good friend whose been working on these bikes for 30 years

I will repeat what has already been mentioned:
That is only PART of a bike, you can get a complete bike with fewer miles for the same money or less.

If you really insist on getting it anyway, the first question should be "do you have a clear title for it?"

.

Looking at the picture and reading your post gives me no reason to encourage you to go ahead with this. Sorry, but I would look elsewhere.

Don't do it. As others have pointed out, $1K should get you a runner.

NOPE! never buy a custom that is unfinished, especially when you don't have the mechanical ability. Where are you located? Plenty of good bikes with a bit of looking.

A perfectly running bike and then he pays someone to rebuild the carburettors, seal the tank and fix a switch. This is a definition of perfect that is new to me. Looks like he forgot to mention the fork seals leaking as well.
Parts bike or long restoration job that might break even if you are very lucky and count your time for nought. Figure a year.
Few hundred tops if it has compression and if he'll deliver.

Tell him to get the motor running and then you'll look at it, otherwise look for a bike that's going already. Rebuilt carbs could also mean he's just cleaned and put new jets in to suit the pods. (Hopefully).

Yikes....I have a GS650E that is on the road, running and needs nothing that I'll sell you for less than what he wants, if you are in my area. Just as smooth, lighter, better handling and quicker. Anyway, like others say, that bike will be a poor deal for you. Keep looking for something better and then you can create a new forum name to match if you don't find a 80suzukigs850 !!

I have to agree with everyone else that you should take a pass on this one.

Don't Do It

Don't Do It

That's a $200 bike...and I'm being nice because $100 would be my top offer.

Run don't walk from that price. I have a turnkey 850L for sale for that money, you can do better.

If you really feel good about the advice these seasoned Suzuki riders are giving you---------please,please do yourself a favor and pass on this one. If not, you'll be sorry.

Ok guys passed on that one and found another 80 suzuki gs850 so wont have to change my name and this one runs and rides and has been taken much better care of has had fork seals replaced carbs rebuilt wheel bearings replaced brakes replaced chain and sprocket and chain new valve cover gasket new battery and im sure im forgetting somethings else hes done

Now onto the bad it has a small oil leak coming from the oil filter housing, needs a tach cable because it broke, and the choke cable is siezed up, and the carbs need synchronized and it needs a new back tire

Clean and clear title and also comes with a bike cover battery tender and cylmer manual and he said he would take 650 but he was asking 950
