DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok guys i found another and wanted to get yalls imput http://wichita.craigslist.org/mcy/5027489339.html

BE NICE

I get that the market must be tight in your area, but I'd be a little hesitant to cafe up a litre bike at that asking price. I get that guys with a tonne of experience can take something like that and transform it to gold, and you have some wrenching experience on other vehicles, but my advice would be to start with something smaller and lighter, like a 400/450/500/550.

Smaller, lighter bikes that can be run to their potential can be far more fun than holding back a beast 90% of the time

Both the 850 and the 1000 have good potential for you.

The 1000 is a bit overpriced IMHO, that 850 for less than $1,000 seems to fit the bill for you

It does need some mufflers or a 4-1. The CV carbs hate changes in the intake or exhaust system.

I'm assuming you've never worked with CV carbs, so that's your latest piece if advice

I do have to ask, is there a factory around there that makes flat black paint, or is that a regional thing?

And, don't get too upset at the answers you get here. Just be more specific. It's springtime and we get flooded with the "i'm going to get my 1st motorcycle and I don't know how to work on them" crowd, who jump at an old heap that's been all cut up and end up selling it in a few months

You sound like you've got some skills, so go buy one. If it's got most of the parts, you can see the extra ones here

@ RobS, exactly what I was thinking, ride it, make sure that the engine is cool before a test ride to make sure the "gremlins" have'nt been warmed up and hidden. If it runs and everything works offer $800.00 and see if he bites. Flat black must be todays "re-sale red" thats 3 for 3, there are other size GS bikes out there so don't be limited to big 4cyl. bikes. I picked up my GS750 E for $1200 delivered! and only had to freshen up the carbs and a rear tire, fix a few elec. quirks and I can go out any day or night, push the go button and she fire right up. And it was already cut up so I did'nt have to chop up a decent original. They are out there, but you may have to look beyond your state. :smug:

Rods big t and jbird. Thank you i offered him 800 and he shot me 1200 then i said a grand and he said yes and hes gunna deliver it so thats a big plus

Ok guys this gs 1000 is most likely the bike that i will be getting. What is the difference between a 1000c e s l or g?

The G models are the classic type (mostly flat seat) with shaft drive, larger gas tanks, L models have smaller gas tanks and the "stepped seat" (think imitation HD cruiser),
the C model supposedly has conventional shocks, e model had gas shocks in the rear.)

got that from
http://www.suzukicycles.org/GS-series/GS1000.shtml which seems a good resource.

I believe it is a c its chain driven wit a flat seat and conventional shocks

That '78 you bought or are buying is an early 1000 chain drive. The shaft 1000G didn't come out til '80. Looks like a decent runner for $1k. With the pods and exhaust baffles removed he rejetted, but it will be loud(obnoxious to most) and probably still have some popping when letting off the throttle. It will be about 40lbs lighter than if you bought the 850G. Those seats are comfy so think twice about hacking up the seat.

Yea i like the seat alot and i am on the hunt for some baffles
