If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Off hand a '82 GS850/1100G by the looks of it.

if it is... How much?

I think you nailed it Rusty! Missing the various rubber bumpers but nice looking seat. I say offer it up here for $100. Going to ebay is greedy since we told you what it's from.

Edit: check the photos against my 850 seat and the bottom doesn't match. Sorry for the bad information before.

Thanks for all the effort guys. Seems to be a G which if I read this right means a 1982. Would the 650, 850 and 1100 use the same seat or just the 850 and 1100??? This is a really long seat compared to some other bikes I have and had. Seems like the bigger bikes would have longer seats....anyway, Nessism, I'm not greedy. If anyone here wants it, you can have it for $125 (split the difference with you Nessism) I don't want to make this thread a "for sale" thread it's not the place for it, so email me at zeus23dog@yahoo.com if you want it and I'll post it on the for sale thread later today. And now I'm off to mud bog, a friend has a truck on 66" tractor tires....kinda fun. Have a great day and thanks again for all your help.

Gary

No, the "G" only means that it fits a shaft-drive bike. :o

The fact that it is longer is what means that it probably fits an 850 or 1100.

The way it mounts with tabs at the front and a latch at the rear is what says " '82 or newer".

.

Posting back in this thread since my information above is wrong I think. This seat pan looks different from my 850 seat - the seat pan vent holes are in different locations and the front mount is different. Sorry for any confusion.

It also looks to be different the the seat bottom of my '83 seat, mine has a rubber spacer under the front bracket, the ribs and hole placement are different as well.

MY new best guess based on the seat pan shown for the '650... '82-? GS650G.

pictures help some what, but the the dimensions should confirm it.

Yeah I saw that.

I've been burned a couple times by sellers who list parts fitting certain models when they have no idea what they came off of. For those who say to "check the pic and the parts fiches", well, sometimes you can't. For example, last month a seller listed a headlight for a 1982 GS850G. Now then, a 7" headlight looks pretty much identical to an 8" headlight, so "checking the photo" does you no good. If the seller says it's off of a 1982 GS850G, you naturally assume it is a 7" headlight off of a 1982 GS850G.

It wasn't, and for what I paid for it, it wasn't worth the hassle of sending it back, eating shipping, etc....

Back to this thread, I will never, ever, buy anything off this guy. Ever. He has knowingly listed a part (and asked a lot of money for it) without really being sure of what it is. He's exactly the kind of seller that makes me want to quit using ebay.

Hey, I'm not trying to rip anybody off. I've done my best to identify this seat, both here and elsewhwere and I offered it here before listing it on ebay. It's a great seat and if someone buys it and I'm wrong about the fitment I'll make it right. It's hard to find really nice parts for old bikes, especially seats. It's not a lot of money, if you think it is, try recovering an old rusty seat pan with deteriorated foam. If you don't want it, don't buy it, but you don't have to trash me Griffin. I, like you, enjoy the old bikes and am just trying to get this in the hands of someone who wants it.

You're listing a seat that you don't know what it is, and you state that you do.

I've been burned before by sellers doing that, and I'll never buy fromt hem again.

By the way, I'm almost positive it is from a GS650G, not an 850 or 1100.

i just looked closer at the auction and noticed you are selling from fenton, mi. if you want, we could probably set up a time to meet (i live in lansing, and have an 1100g) and see if it does indeed fit or not.

Seuadr,
Look at the bottom of your seat and compare it to his pictures, before you take the ride to Fenton.

I have a 1982 GS850G and compared the photos in this thread to my seat. They are NOT the same – seat pan is different. The 1982 GS 1100G and 850G share the same seat so by default the seat can not be from a 1100 either. The 1983 850/1100 use the same seat pan so the seat can not be from that year either.

It seems pretty clear at this point that the seat is for a GS650.

I've been looking at photos in the GS650/850/1100G brochure. The 650G seat is flatter in the front than the larger models' seat. The 850/1100 seat is curved in the rider area. Furthermore, the sidestitching pattern is different on the 650.

The seat in the photos is flat in the front, and the stitching pattern matches the 650G's. It is for a 650G, not an 850G or 1100G as listed on the auction.

Guess I’m partly to blame since I posted early into this thread that I thought the seat was for a 850/1100. Further review showed the truth but by that time the OP was gone to maximize his profits on ebay.

No, your not to blame! I think you've nailed it is not a 100% certain answer...

the funny thing about all this is, I want a good '82 850 seat. now, I wouldn't buy it on a bet even if it was the correct seat.

I might know where one is. A fellow nearby parted out a nearly pristine-looking '83 1100G that had a seized up engine.

I'll check for you.....

Thanks Griffin for the offer, but I already have a '83 seat on mine. The reason I need a '82 seat? my butt needs the extra padding. :(
