DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi there,
this is my first post and I need some help. I picked up a gs550d a few days ago, really enjoying it but it does have issue. I filled her up yesterday and as I was riding along I saw petrol leaking out all over the tank. I pulled over and found that when the bike leaned or shook as it might when cornering fuel was leaking out from around the petrol cap. I went online and ordered a new rubber gasket to go in the cap and that was it dealt with. But just now I removed the cap and shook the bike and the fuel is actually coming out from around ring that sticks out from the tank that you screw the fuel cap onto! So my new rubber but for the cap is a waste of time eek! How do I stop the fuel escaping around the actual fuel hole? Does it need tightening or do I need to seal it or is the tank just dead and need replacing (hope not!).
as you can tell I'm very very new to classic bikes but keen to learn. Would really appreciate any advice.
cheers in advance!

I'm not certain what is going on...It sounds like you have an early 550 (year always helps) with a screw on cap and you have a leak at the base of the cap riser(?). Can you take a picture for us and clarify the year and model.

Heya,
it's a 1977 gs550d. And yes I think the leak is from the bottom of the cap riser! Wasn't sure what to refer to that part as. It's a bit dark out now but can take a pic tomorrow if that'll help your diagnosis.
cheers bud,
