If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Ok, so here's the deal. I bought a basket case 81 gs850g. I have put the entire thing back together and I am now just waiting for the seat to be finished at the upolestry shop! I am turning her into a cafe racer and have redone just about everything on her myself. Now I have run into a major problem. I picked up awhat I thought was a same year insturment cluster from a junkyard and after taking it home cleaning it up and mounting it realized the wiring is different? the plugs dont match uop and my manual isnt much help in this department! I really want to use the insturments since the are now like new but im scared to start cutting wires and not knowing whats what. The colors dont match from the harness to the cluster! any ideas???

Hi Mr. dnorth,

I would first identify all the wires coming out from the instrument cluster. Just get yourself a 12v battery and go through each wire and find out what it lights up. You will have the turn signal indicators, the gear position indicators, the high beam indicator, the cluster illumination lights, oil pressure indicator, neutral indicator, ....um, anything else? Then download the factory manual from my site. It may give you a better idea of how to wire it into the harness. You're going to have to replace the molex connectors. See the links in your "mega-welcome" for suppliers of electric connectors and such.

Anyway, I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.

After further research I now know that the insturment cluster is from a 82' gs850g, & my bike is a 81' gs850g. hence the difference in the connectors. I will review your download now, thanks and ill be follwing up in the morrow!

BassCliff, I was wondering if I could use terminal connectors in lue of molex replacments. once I find each wires place in the order cut the molex off and attach a male connector to each wire from the main harness and from the insturment harness and then plug and go?? since the problem is the molex connectors differ from 81 to 82?

You can do that or find someone with a trashed cluster and have them snip off the connector plugs so you can graft them onto your cluster by soldering and heatshrinking the wires.
