A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello everyone, its good to be here. I have an 83 Kz550 A3 and the newest addition to my collection a 80 Gs550LT. I traded my friends dad an 8ft fiberglass boat i had laying in my yard for years for the bike, with a bobber project in mind.

It was not running, and was all tore up.
I threw about 150 bucks at it and some parts i had laying around, and came up with what is in the picture.

Its running now but not very good.
Im guessing because i cut the rusted out dual stock pipes off at the crossover, and made an air filter by using the old plastic box with some filter material in it and some aluminum mesh holding it in.

It needs the be rejetted now and i cant find the specs anywhere! im hoping i can get a little help here.

Thanks in advance!

Greetings and Salutations!!

Hi Mr. 550lt,

That's actually a pretty good looking bobber. Nice work. Without the stock airbox and exhaust configuration you'll probably have to do the "plug chop" trial-and-error dance to get the mixtures set properly. There's a spreadsheet on my site with all of the stock carb settings, an explanation of the plug chop method, and probably a manual too. Help yourself. Now let me say "Hi"... :)

Welcome aboard. I'm in Bellingham as well.
Check your PM. Good info there.

Hey cool, I thought I was the only one to ever own a 1983 KZ 550 A3. That was an awesome bike, I couldn't kill it for trying. Got pictures of it? Check mine out in my gallery.

I wish I could help with your problem but I am new to GS's myself. I am sure you will find what you need here. These guys and gals aare great.

Welcome

hey thanks for the quick responses and warm welcomes!

Ive thuroughly cleaned the carbs out the other day, float needles and seats are in good condition. Cleaned all the jets and circuts out. Slides are in good working condition.

i havent checked the float level yet, that i need to do soon.
I have assumed it needs to be jetted because after cleaning the carbs it'll run but will bogg down when i put a load on the engine by riding it. Too much air flow and not enough fuel.

It wont bog down if i have the choke on, that leads me to belive its the jets.

About those bars, they wont flip over cause the points of the bars wont clear the top of the trees, it would be cool though.

Yep, The KZ is my daily driver. I have never seen another one quite like it ever in person, and it is rare to find one on the web. Ill put some pics up.

Luke.
