A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hillsy's GS 450 cafe build

interested in how that seat fits. have any more pics of it on the frame?

i meant over the framerails. as in, how it sits.

Oh, OK - my bad :(

The width of the seat unit is almost spot on with the GS frame along the seat part (I measured this before I looked on eBay), however it tapers in from where the hump starts to the rear - but the GS frame rails stay straight.
I plan to taper the frame in at the rear to match the seat unit (I have a welder and i'm not afraid to use it :dancing:)

Have you solved the tank mounting yet?
Thanks for the idea of the 650 tank.

JF

OK - did some more work this weekend.

First up, trimmed up the caliper mount and painted (matt black of course!!)

Next, "de-lugged" the frame. Man there were HEAPS of lugs...

Then welded the rear frame rails together to suit the seat unit

The original headlight ears were too small for the new forks, and they stuck out too far anyway, so I made up a new pair out of some old bicycle frame tubing and a set of bolt on clamps I had laying around. I might lower the headlight a bit :-k

Great project. Looks great.

Any reason why you have the fork legs swapped to the wrong side? Those tabs at the top of the fork lowers are supposed to be on the inside for mounting the front fender.

Ahh yes....

The front end is off GSX250F and the wheels are off a Yamaha FZR250. The Yamaha wears the caliper on the RHS, whilst the GSX is on the left. Hence the fork swap around to make things fit.

If I ever have to do something like this again I will choose more compatible donors..

Ah, I knew there was a reason and figured it had to do with the brakes.

Looking good. Can't wait to see the final version. BTW, saw you on customfighters, too.

I've been watching, and I'm very impressed. Wish I could pull off this kind of project.
The bike looks like its going to be a lot of fun.

can you give us any clues on what we can anticipate? any design ideas floating around?

couple things I am curious about:
1) that rear brake. is that really where it is going to stay? can you bleed it in that position?

2) rear shocks....those are definately originals... are they any good still?

Wouldn't it have been easier to turn the wheel around & run it "backwards". Looks like you could have even reversed the disk too as it's a flat one...

Dan :)
