A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How do I remove the oil pan from my GS450E?

This may seem like a silly question, but for the life of me I cannot remove the oil pan to replace the gasket. I have removed all of the bolts and it still won't come off. My bike is a 1983 GS450E. Is there a secret to this that I just can't figure out? Thanks in advance for any input.

Carefully pry the pan loose after the bolts are off. The gasket is stuck.

If you resort to sticking something between the pan and the crankcase, go easy or the sealing area will become damaged.

Take a small rubber hammer and give it a couple firm bonks.
(nothing too heavy, just lightly whack it a few times in rapid succession)
The vibration will usually knock it loose.
You can also Feel and Tell if all the bolts are loose.

That's the way to do it (with apologies to Mr Punch).

Couldn't find my rubber mallet (my garage is a mess because I have so many projects right now), so I used a hammer and 2x4. A couple light taps and it popped right off. Also made a bit of a mess. Turns out draining the oil still leaves some left in the bottom of the pan... ^_^

Thanks guys!

Also, thought I'd post a picture. Just got the body pieces back from the paint shop today. Can't tell from the picture, but it's a pearl paint with a pink undertone so it changes in the sunlight. It's my wife's Christmas present. Her birth stone is pearl and she said she wanted a pink bike, so I thought a tri-tone pearl/metallic pink would be cool. Just a couple more little things and it'll be ready from Christmas!

all good but is the an RX-7 or a Datsun pulling up the rear?

It's a 1979 Rx-7 Limited, 1 of 3000 (much fewer than that left, I'm sure). I just finished up the body work and primer. Needs to go to the paint shop now. Here's some before pics and a current one. Can't really tell from the pictures, but the rear fenders needed to be completely replaced. The bottom picture is of the parts car I used so you can kind of tell the extent of the damage to the Limited.

Haha, noticed during preview that the GS450E is in the bed of my pickup in the background of the 2nd picture. That's what color it was prior. Faded, rusted and dinged up.
