    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I got some Yoshi pipes off e-bay recently. They are 4:2:1 stainless. pretty good shape . I tried to clean then up yesterday and got a lot of melted plastic off of them, and was able to get some of the tarnish but the bluing is really tough.

I used stainless steel wool, Por-15 metal prep, Mag wheel cleaner and a buffing wheel. I ordered some Blue Job and will try that. Any other ideas?

I read about using aluminum foil as well. I not tried that yet.

I am not sure if it works on stainless but Blue Job is supposed to work on chrome. I have some but have not tried it yet.
 
Yea I just ordered some Blue Job last nite could not remember the name though. :rolleyes:

To simulate this process you can use a battery charger, a piece of copper tubing, some fiberglass cloth to cover the tubing, and some watered down muriatic acid about 2 parts water to 1 part acid. Wrap the fiberglass around the tubing. Hook up the negative clamp to the tubing and the positive to the muffler. Turn on the battery charger to start mode, about 60 amps at 12 volts setting, and then dip the fiberglass into the acid and rub the area to be cleaned. The blue magically disappears. IMPORTANT: wipe off with water and wash right away. Try this on a scrap piece if you can first.

Here's the key to cleaning stainless steel exhaust headers with bad bluing NOT CHROME. It has certainly worked for me. Mix 2 parts water to 1 part Muriatic Acid. Paint this solution on header with cheap paint brush. (Caution! Muriatic Acid is a form of Hydrochloric Acid and can burn skin. (Please be responsible here and wear rubber gloves and goggles.) This mixture will remove yellowing and other crap on SS exhaust but not bluing. Leave on for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, wash thoroughly in soapy water, hose off and let dry. Then get a can of Blue Job. and USING APPLICATOR CLOTH included (Some sort of catalytic reaction here.)put a thick coat of Blue Job goo on all areas you want to look better. Leave this stuff on to dry for at least 12 hours! Afterwards, get an SOS Pad and attack the header. With some elbow grease and effort you can get the stainless steel exhaust header looking like new again! To keep the pipes from bluing again get some VHT high temperature silver spray ceramic coating and spray the INSIDE of your exhaust headers after you have cleaned them out with Gunk or carb cleaner. WARNING! Again, do not do this procedure with CHROME PIPES as the Muriatic Acid and SOS Pads will strip the chrome off the exhaust headers.

OK got the blue job, no expectation it will do a damn thing but tried it. Giving it 12 hours to do it's magic.

EDIT: Well did did something but I can't say that it is "effective"

fine sand paper sold as a " shop roll", about an inch wide , tear off as long a strip as you like. use around 400, or 600 grit, or finer if you like, polish it radially as opposed to axially gives a matte finish a la supertrapp
 
What do yo mean by "giving it 12 hrs."? Not sure about SS, but if you rub forever on the chrome pipes, it WILL come off. Blue job is the only thing I've tried that actually worked.

In post #7 is a link to the recommendation for BlueJob and Stainless Steel. These pipes have a wonderful luster like I've never seen before, the blueing is beautiful it just looks like fingerprints. Hoping to clean it and have the bluing come back more uniformly.

Stainless steel wool with Bartenders friend did almost nothing. Maybe I need to rub for hours to do anything.:(
