Can i fit it to where the Tacho Mechanism lives at the top ov the engine? Where woukd it go into down the bottom ov the engine? Is it the blanked off bit above the side crankcase???

Thanx all.

You need an adapter to feed oil from where the oil pressure switch goes & back....

To be honest with the temperatures you get there I wouldn't bother... more cost/hassle than it's worth plus multiple extra leak points & a slower warm-up in winter (as you won't have a thermostat on the cooler).

If you're convinced you want to do it Nessism has a thread on here about how to make your own adapter. I believe he's also made a couple of them for people without the skillset/tools to do so themselves.

:)

Thx Salty-Monk.
I realise that its a little OTT. But im building a Survival/ Rat bike and thought it added a certain..... Something, to the look ov it.
I'll check out the Thread you mentioned.

Hi,

I found this on some guy's website:

Oil Cooler Adapter Tutorial

(by Mr. Nessism)

I haven't seen Terry around for quite a while. He made some nice adapters for the 8-valve engines.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

That's just mean Rusty. According to the GSR guidelines you are now required to locate an adapter for Seana.:twistedevil:

Okay, I located one... it's on my GS1000EC and it's staying there.

I'll see what I can do about another one.

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutttttttttttttttttttttttttttttssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!

Have another look.... Have you checked in that box under the workbench in your garage????

Yes I did...

There was a 2 Meter transceiver and a 2m/70 cm dual band transceiver, a set of headlights for the W-6, a mapp gas torch, two broken carb bodies and a complete rack of carbs for an '80 850.

Boasting that you tidied away all those empty beer bottles again.....?:D

Like Dan said, you won't need a cooler over here (getting chilly already - heating clicked in this morning) so have you considered popping a non-functional one on just for looks? You can tuck the hoses up under the tank and nobody will know.

Ed's tutorial will be the cheapest way to sort one if you want one for more than just show..

Oh i couldnt bring myself to just have it on "for show"..
I know what you mean about it not being hot enough, alrhough it would be nice to be able to turn an oil cooler on when it gets to Summer each year...

Thanx for all ya kind advice.

I'll give it a ponder...
Oh by the way, would it be possible to run an oil cooler line from where the oil filter is to the top ov the engine by where the oil breather is? Maybe using if needed, a small pump to draw the oil up..?
Just a thought.

Oh yes, whats on the top ov the bench??? Look behind that big pile ov empty beer cans.

Thanx all

If you try to draw oil from the filter housing with a pump, you'll only succeed in dropping the pressure and starving the motor of oil. It's not too difficult to modify the oil pressure switch housing to make a flow and return adaptor for a cooler. Give John the Breaker a call, he might have one. Don't have his number off hand, I'm sure it's on the web somewhere.

Yeah, good point Guy. Dint think ov dat!!
Ill ask your man John the Breaker there.
Thanx babes.

I know the current focus is on the adapter plate, but you should also be investigating the cooler itself. You can make the lines with Earl's connections and stainless lines, but the size and fitting of the cooler will also be a challenge.
Just a thought.

Thanx KK. the oil cooler is approx 10 inches by 3 inches by 4 inches... I'm hoping fo fit it at Handlebar hight, where the Clocks usually go. Mounting tje Speedo at the top left ov the engine and the Taacho on t'other side... She's a bit ov a Mutant, my bike.

Thing is, that the cooler still has 3 inches ov the original rubberised pipe each side ov it as i cant undo the connecting bolts so ill have to join some Goodridge to the rubber pipes... Is this possible?

Honestly, I suggest you do not want to mount the cooler there. You want it frame mounted so it, and the lines feeding it, do not move.
