DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am stymied....vacuum leak.

Ran all the checks and came up clean, very clean carbs. The problem slowly came on at the end of a 1000 mile ride and got worse as time passed. I am running a stage one kit and have always run the pilots around 11/2 turns. If I go much more I get a hanging idle. Still tweaking them but may be a while now as other things get in the way. She does turn up fairly good now just waiting for the hammer to drop again.

i wonder if a set off a 83 1000G would work….

The pilot screws control fuel flow. More open, more fuel. They are not air bleeds. You might want to try 3 turns open, and see what happens.

3 turns open means really bad hanging idle. I know what the screws adjust, have synced to straight across the board. Maybe I’ll try my blue tune and see what I get.

3 turns out should be flooding the engine with gas not making it hang.

Yes, the hanging idle comes from burning off the excess fuel when the throttle is closed. The carbs as stated have the stage 1 treatment, so normal input does not always equal normal results when tuning.

Actually, no. A hanging idle is caused by a lean condition, not rich.

Yes and no. If I turn my pilots more than 11/2-13/4 turns out I get a hanging idle, idles good at 11/2 turns. Go figure

Yep, it is time for the blue tune!
What is the color @ 1.5 turns out and 3.0 turns out?
Pilot screws have good o-rings?
At 3 turns out do you think the pilots are sucking air?

Won’t get to the blue tune till this weekend maybe, have another project that I’m working on.

Maybe the O-rings start to leak if the pilot screws are open more than 1.5 turns?

gustovh Did you replace all the O-rings recently (last 5 years or so?)

I did that that is how I know what it does. Doesn’t even want to run 3 turns out. Fresh O rings and seals. New intake pipes. Possible throttle shaft seals as Big T throws out. Have not ridden since last adjustment or looked at the plugs yet.
