    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I broke my brake switch

Ever since I got my bike, it has had bad wiring, most of it comes from a previous rewiring attempt on the bike. My brake light used to not work when I applied the brakes, and upon inspection closer of the electrical I found out that it was actually the opposite problem. The brake light was ALWAYS on but with a low voltage so as not to make it as bright as it should be.

I traced the problem to the switch in the hand brake as the 2 wires in there had corroded to oblivion and had somehow come to rest touching each other providing a resisted short. I replaced the wiring with brand new wires and nice clean solder.

Upon reinstalling the wiring into the switch assembly, the "gasket" that held the wires in the switch exploded on me thus making it impossible for the switch to work. Does anyone know where I can source one of these as I cant even find a part number for it or even the wiring that comes out of it?
 
Which model bike? You can probably find a new one on ebay for 10 bucks.
 
by gasket do you meant he bakelite esque thing that has two copper contact strips to which wires are attached and upon which a copper switch contact runs when one depresses the brake lever


if so do what skremer said cos that wiring thing sucks
 
I mounted my pressure switch under the tripple tree at the hose junction
 
I bought a hydraulic banjo switch from this eBay seller: PeakMoto

$19.99 + $3.50 shipping. I had it in a few days and it came complete with the correct bullet connectors. It plugged right in and I was able to get the rubber boot to cover it up. I do like SDL's idea of mounting it at the junction. Be sure to get the right thread. My '83 1100E used this one:
