A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello,
I was looking at my friends 1983 gs 550 L 4 banger, dual carb machine. It does not run unless it has half choke. The bike is all stock and has 7k miles on it. my question is, is there an idle mix adjust screw? I pulled the carbs and could not find anything. Is there a way to adjust them? Like I said it has two carbs for 4 cylinders. The bike hasn't run in years either. I cleaned the carbs and it does not idle unless I have it at 1/2 choke. I sprayed some ether at the intake boots by the carbs, and it did seem to pick up a little. Anyway is there adjust screws or not.
Thanks,
Nick

Nick , get touch with Thomas Kenny on this site he has torn the carbs down all the way.
Yes this is a mixture screw. It's under the caps. You can find them.

You must clean the carbs twice, they are not easy to get clean all the way the frist time.

There are a few write up's on the bsw32 carbs, same carbs on the GS550ES.

Those writeups are all by you buddy.

The mixture doesn't need to be adjusted, just the pilot jets and screws need cleaning. :-) Definitely not a hard task. A drill press makes getting to the pilot screws easier.

Is the air box stock and on the bike? Is the air filter in as well. I would think it would idle without it but it might not. Suzuki built it to run with some level of vacuum in the carbs. Without the air cleaner the vacuum drops and it coesn't pull enough gas. LOL!
