    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Idle issue with Video!

I have a 81 GS450 L. CV carbs. It will get "Stuck" around 3 K then after 10 seconds it dips to 2 K but will not return back to 1,100 unless I blip the throttle a little bit. I have messed with the idle screws no difference. And I did check for air leaks. But I am pretty sure there is none because it idles at 1,100 just fine. I did also swap the CV slides. I can't remember now but are your intake boots new? That really does look like an air leak to me... I know you evened out one of them but if your boots are anything like mine were they will all appear to be good and fine but they really aren't...
 
I'd seriously recommend forking out for new ones, about $25 each from Boulevard Suzuki.

The reason for that is that the problem with my old ones was that the rubber had shrunk, so not only did it not seal well against the head, but the outside diameter was too small which prevented the clamps from clamping properly and the inside diameter was also too small which made it really hard to get them in. It also meant the rubber wasn't complying to the carbs very well, hence the leaks.

The clamps are also available and are cheap.
 
I think I might have made it better. I used some thread sealer on the synch ports in the intake. It no longer hangs at 2 K. I should have the new O rings here is a day or two. So I will get those all replaced and see if its better. How long does it usually take for a 450 to warm up fully? Do you have to use the choke all the time?
 
Choke to start. Put on your coat, helmet, and gloves, drive down the street. A 100yds. on the street ease off choke.

Really Charlie? I stick mine on choke while I put my helmet and gloves on and shut the garage door, then it's off the choke and off I go. Mind you it's possibly a little warmer here...

Bakirkwold, glad to hear you're getting somewhere with it!

As for getting the bike fully warm, it'll take a good 10 to 15 minutes typically to get it truly warm. Warm enough to idle with the choke off isn't fully warm. I made that mistake when initially setting my idle and mixture screws and I had it all way too rich due to it not being warm enough yet. It's still too rich now but that's a whole different story...
 
The new O rings fixed it. Or at least made a heck of a lot better. You where right guys! Thanks again.

Glad to hear it! I still say get new boots, but if it's working well then that's just plan excellent regardless :D
