DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Got a tip to replace my ignition cover phillips-head screws (actually all phillips-head screws) with hex head. Anyone know the specs on these particular screws?
So it's the ingnition cover screws on a 1981 GS850G.

I know, I could just bring one of them with me to Ace Hardware, but when I tried to stop in and grab one from my detached apartment complex garage, the opener didn't work. No biggie - if somebody knows and posts in the next 8 hours or so it'll just save me a trip home before going to the hardware store.

You won't have them by the time you get home, but here is a set that is available on eBay that will replace ALL the bolts on the engine. \\:D/ $25 + 6 for shipping.

Hmmmmm... tempting. And probably cheaper than doing piecemeal like I'm doing now. Does that even include bigger bolts like the valve cover or the head?

Either way you've convinced me to wait until I can check out that ebay deal. (Ebay's blocked from work - :-s)

The ignition cover screws on a GS850 are 5mm X 30mm.

(Why do I know this? I can't remember what I had for breakfast. )

Check Z1 for those bolts first...the ebay ones, if you read carefully are often smaller sets, not as many bolts which leads one to wonder what ISNT getting new bolts....I know the Z1 set is larger, and it has the cam side cover bolts that the Ebay set for my bike didnt have...and im assuming others as well, since the ebay set was about half as many bolts as the Z1. Yeah the ones from Z1 arent POLISHED stainless...but really, if you want polished stainless, dont you want ALL the bolts??

Hmmm, and the set from Z1 is cheaper, too, assuming shipping's comparable. Since I'm pretty much going function over form at this point I guess I'd have to go with the non-polished, bigger set. Good tips.

The set from Z1 contains the bolts for the valve cover, which most other sets do not -- 16 6X40mm screws, and 4 6X25mm for the breather cover -- plus all the screws for the clutch cover, stator cover, starter cover, ignition cover, and the gearbox cover behind the shifter.

Thanks for the info on the Z1 kit. I was planning on converting over the winter, now I know a better source, and for a better kit. \\:D/
