    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

inlet rubbers

hi all
does any one know the inernal diameter of the inlet rubbers where they bolt to cyl head.just asking as it will save me taking the carbs off to find out.cheers shep
 
I assume the bike in question is a GS850, from your screen name.

But what year? The 1979 intake boots are different than the 1980+ GS850.

And why do you ask?

In case you're wondering, there are no aftermarket boots that will work, but you can order new ones from any Suzuki dealer or parts source. They're about $20 each, and will last another 20+ years. There is no known way to repair cracked or hardened intake boots -- they must be replaced.

If you're replacing the o-rings, your best bet is to order new ones from Suzuki -- ordinary o-rings will quickly deteriorate in the heat and gasoline vapor environment.

If you're not sure what year GS850 engine you have, the 1979 model has a kick starter and several other small differences.

the year and bike is a gs850 -1985
i need some new inlet rubbers as 2 of them are split and might be leaking
have been offered a set of gs1000 inlet rubbers and was wondering if they would fit hence need to know the internal diameter of the inlet rubbers

After looking at flatouts's part diagram http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/fiche_select.asp

It would appear that your bike uses the bolt-on flange type, and the 1000 uses the double clamp style tube.

It would probably be best to find an online microfiche and see if the part numbers are the same. Even if the internal diameter is the same, they could be offset by different amounts. The last year for the GS850G in the US was 1983, so I don't know where to check for later models imported to other countries.

I'm just guessing, since you haven't given the year or exact model of the donor GS1000, but the closest GS1000 model to the GS850G is the 1980-81 GS1000G.

Unfortunately for you, if you check a microfiche, these intake boots are a different part number. Therefore, the GS1000 boots will not fit your GS850. (The GS1100G boots are also different, as are the GS1000 chain drive boots). The internal diameter and the bore spacing is slightly different on the cylinder head side.
