How was the fairing on the GS1000S installed? Was it mounted via clamps to handlebars, or was there a bracket welded or otherwise attached to the steering head which then attached to the fairing? Anyone have a pic of the brackets / mounting hardware?

Thanks!

I can send you some pics tomorrow if you can wait till then.

It attaches to both the top and bottom of the triple tree.

Up top, there is a curved tubular steel bracket that attaches to the triple tree via the top tightening bolt. The bracket attaches to the inside of the fairing at the spot where the rearview mirrors would normally mount on the other side.

The bottom mount is a 90 degree angle iron that attaches to the bottom of the tree where the side reflector goes. It attaches to the bottom lip of the fairing.

Here's a pic of the bottom attachmentthat shows how it goes on the tree.

Here is the fairing mounted on my 1100G. It'll get some burgundy paint soon:

Are you trying to fabricate some mounts yourself? I wouldn't think it'd be all that hard. If you want, I can measure the mounts and take pics of them off the bike.

Thanks for the pics and the help. Where did you get your fairing from?

The previous owner gave it to me (along with a Vetter Windjammer) when I bought the bike.

Hi PJ,

I just bought an Emgo fairing that's very similar only to find it doesn't fit..... It's for a 7" headlight which my lens is but the bucket takes it out closer to 8" so it doesn't fit.

Measure carefully! The diameter of the opening in the fairing I bought is 7.5" diameter exactly. It would also be tight on my bars (I have Euro bars) as they are a little tall. Yours look similar in the pic.

If the fairing I bought will fit yours & you want it then we can figure something out. Otherwise I guess I'll Ebay it.

By the way, only place I've seen that fairing above is at Dennis Kirk... It's 100 bucks from memory. http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produ...d=406&productId=p61145&leafCatId=40602&mmyId= Maier under bodywork. Mine is the other 60 buck one they used to do. Emgo branded. The brackets are simple right angles that fix from the headlight mounting brackets to the fairing. Looking at John's bike in Reno he had fabricated some top mounts for his fairing as well, I think he said it needed them to stop vibration. They were fixed to the bar mounting bracket, just a very simple twisted steel from memory.

I'm now looking for a 8" one......

Cheers,

Dan :)

The faring brackets are still available from Suzuki.
The upper mounts are part# 519667-001, 519687-001.
The lower mounts are part# 504920-001, 504926-001.

Cool! Where are you seeing these available? Bikebandit and Flat Out don't have them. Thanks!

I got nasty weave at around 100 with the big *ss fairing I started off to Yosemite with. Much bigger than one of these though, bigger than the one Chef had on his bike even.

Dan :)

Here's some photos of the original Suzuki mounts and installation. If you need any measurements let me know as they are off the bike at this time. No they're not for sale, sorry.

Limited to 4 photos so split them up 3 and 3. Hope they help

Word is handlebar/fork mounted fairings can cause weave at 100+ MPH, anyone have this experience?

Not personally, but it is a well documented problem. The old 80's FJ models had this to some extent, there were others as well. It is a difficult thing to predict, depends on the bike model, how and where you attach the fairing, your chassis set up, etc. But you want to be aware of the possibility before you install one, in case it comes up and you need to deal with it. It's much better to have a plan than to be surprised by it one day at a critical moment.

Mark
