A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

This is my '79 GS1000. Been lurking the forums for over a year now so I wanted to give a huge thanks to everyone here for keeping this up and sharing so much useful information. It really helped me out in this quest of getting this bike running as it should.
Bought it as is, but running very rough so I did a complete top end rebuilt and carbs, which all took a lot longer than I expected doing it myself. It's been quite a learning experience, even having previous knowledge of Japanese bikes (owned many from the 80's and 90's).
Not only the service manual helped a lot, but also reading the experiences from all of you here in the forum to tackle all the issues that came up along the way.
Now it's finally riding season here, so I can enjoy riding this beast every time I can :)

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and THANKS again for this wonderful place!

Welcome to the forum. Must be getting into peak summer riding season for you down there, while most of us up north aren't thinking about our bikes much except for winter maintenance. Would be great if you shared some pics of where you live and ride. We don't have any regularly contributing members from your area of the world.
Your bike is a lot more customized than what we normally see here. But I, for one, approve. Is that a view window on the fuel tank??

Congrats dog, glad you got it sorted. Personally I've never been a fan of pod filters but that's just me. If it suits you, that's all that matters.

Thanks, I live in the southernmost part of Patagonia, so it looks like this in summer:

Can't avoid some dirt roads to get to the pavement, that's very common here.
And yeah we're just starting riding season, could go as further as April if I dress up enough to keep warm, but when winter comes, ice is no good.
That in the tank is indeed a fuel level window, very cool feature. It had a decal around it but already replaced it twice and keeps peeling off, so decided to live without it.

Yeah not a big fan either, specially when it came with all stock jets, one of the reasons it was running so bad. But it suits the look, I have to admit.
Not my daily ride so is not exposed to a lot of dirt or debris that can get in there anyway. I'd take a stock airbox any day for these bikes, but given the mods done to it, no way it'll fit.
